There were three or four loud bangs just now off Kaplan, almost like cannon fire or cars colliding. I stepped outside on the deck to see what I could see, and the last bang was accompanied by a flash like lightning. Anyone know what the fuck is happening? Sirens now.

Yeah, I thought it might be a transformer exploding, but I've never heard multiple reports from a single transformer. Also, my power didn't flicker or anything, and you figure if you're close enough to hear it, your power is probably depending on it.

I always wanted to live in the single family part of Kaplan between Gorman and Athens dr. It is actually very convenient to 40/440 and my job takes me all over the place daily. Nothing wrong with Kaplan, the part closer to Gorman is "inside the beltline" technically. I think over time it will become more desirable when people realize how close it is to everything.

This. Beltline access is fantastic and it's close to Wade/I-40 for people who work in the park. Western Blvd takes you downtown in 5 minutes and Jones Franklin takes you to Crossroads shopping center which has pretty much everything a homeowner needs. I think it will become more attractive as downtown becomes more expensive and Centennial campus grows.

Oh, and close to Ruckus.

This. It's actually a nice neighborhood once you pass the disc golf course (Kentwood? Is that what that park was called?) Close to campus, very convenient to Western/440. If I moved back to Raleigh, and couldn't afford the historic neighborhoods near downtown (ie Oakwood, Brooklyn, Boylan Heights, Cameron Park, etc.), that would be one of my target neighborhoods. Fuck North Raleigh.
