Exactly.
My favorite one is this "no ketchup on hot dog" bull shit I see on twitter. Like...ok, if you wanna tell me I'm eating some expensive ass entree wrong then maybe I'd at least hear you out. But we're talking about a goddamn hot dog. You're already scraping the bottom of the barrel. 9/30/2014 8:06:36 PM

its not for a regular scrap "bottom of the barrell" hot dog you speak of but if you are eating a real meat hot dog (more like a sausage) then ketchup should not be used.
Ketchup's purpose is to cover the taste of food. If you are paying a premium for food that has a specific taste and putting ketchup on it then you are wasting your money. 9/30/2014 8:53:37 PM

ketchup is okay on a hot dog (although carolina style is superior), just not the ridiculously sweet slop that calls itself ketchup. make some yourself, or at least buy some decent ketchup
This is the ketchup I like, you can actually taste the tomatoes.

No ketchup on hotdogs is a regional thing not a "foodie" thing.
Also a friend of mine used to work at sir kensingtons. The ketchup is fine bit the chipotle mayo is better. 9/30/2014 10:40:36 PM

I used to work with this lady that considered herself a "foodie"
She had champagne tastes on a Milwaukee's Best budget.
She would talk about what to do and not do with food. But she would do all her grocery shopping at Big Lots. LOL 9/30/2014 10:50:21 PM

I heard of the "no ketchup on hot dogs" thing a couple years ago. and as a result, I tried replacing the ketchup with mustard.
and I must say, for me it's WAAAAY better
it was really almost a revolution in my diet...I'd never seriously eaten mustard before. now I dig the hell out of it. ketchup hasn't touched my hot dogs in two years.
by way, I ain't saying that ketchup + hod dog isn't good. just that for me, mustard is much the superior condiment for this job. 9/30/2014 11:32:20 PM

I don't normally eat ketchup on hot dogs either. I prefer a spicy deli style mustard. But if that's not available I'll take ketchup over yellow mustard. For some reason I can't stand yellow mustard anymore. 9/30/2014 11:42:23 PM

Mayo is good in tuna or chicken salad. I made an aioli dip the other night that consisted of some mayo, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, and worcestershire sauce. Boil or steam and artichoke to dip and bam quick snack.
Also make my own mayo on occasion. It's actually pretty easy if you've got a preferred oil and some lemon for the emulsion process. 9/30/2014 11:58:15 PM

Being a locavore is nothing pretentious or gourmet at all. In fact, unless you live in california, locavores are giving up a lot of quality quality; all in the name of sustainability and moral high ground.
In fact, I find it hard to believe that any educated person who isn't short on cash doesn't at least TRY to be a locavore and compost their organic waste. 10/1/2014 12:27:05 AM

anyways

I had thought that the rule was ketchup was OK on hot dogs, but blasphemy on hamburgers. Perhaps there is a split in the foodie movement.
Quote : | "i have no interest in going to a chain restaurant" |
This is the attitude that gets me. There is a time and a place for everything, including chain restaurants and fast food. People who categorically refuse either are black-and-white-universe fascists and I cannot abide them.
And all locavores and organic food nuts, I want to invite you to come to Africa. A couple of months in village will cure you of both pretty goddamn quick. 10/1/2014 4:25:46 AM

If anything, going to a place that has been exploited like Africa should make you come back as a locavore sure thiing.
Also, traveling in general should make you more of a foodie. After Italy, I can't eat pizza with processed mozzeralla anymore so now I have to refuse like 95% of the pizza places in America.
What the hell is the time and place for eating poisonous food? I'd love to hear your situation where you're like "hey, this is a great time to eat bad food!" I guess you are out in the middle of nowhere at a bad time and there is literally nothing else to eat. 10/1/2014 7:37:52 AM

To me, mayo is perfect between bread and tomatoes. But on other stuff... mehhh not so into it.
I like the idea of trying out new places to eat the same way that I like listening to new music. I am there to think about something and to draw some sort of conclusion out of it (like, would t be worth it to come here again and is this actually special?). Not necessarily there just to eat and enjoy myself.
