Old boss used to flip out all the time.

It would go:

Little problem> temper tantrum, sometimes throwing/breaking things> angry silence> everything actually fine> then he would laugh about it later and act like his infantile bullshit wasn't the bane of everyone's existence

- I saw a guy get into an argument with a coworker. He then went back to his desk, picked up a monitor, and threw it against a wall. He was let go.

-Another guy that crawled across a table in a meeting, and starts strangling another guy. He was reprimanded.

-One lady that was laid off fainted when she was told. She was still laid off.

-Not meltdown, per se, but a slow burn descent into not giving a fuck. A guy would come in, read the paper, talk to his wife, then browse the Internet. This gradually turned into spending hours on end in his cubicle looking at hardcore porn. I mean, if you walked past his cube, chances were that you would see some lady getting dicks stuck inside of her. He was warned, kept doing it, then was fired.

-overheard phone conversations of a guy going through a divorce. He would be yelling. You could hear her yelling at him...over the phone...from down the hall. Nothing happened.

-then there was a weird guy who had anger issues already. This guy, when his code wouldn't compile, would smash his keyboard up with his hands, curse, and break it. Nothing happened.

One guy, still on probation (new hire), completely flipped out because someone "touched his desk", he yelled at a bunch of people, then walked out of the room. We didn't see him the rest of the day (he was just trying to cool down).

He didn't make his probation...

There used to be a girl at work who would flip out and send really aggresive emails in all caps about stuff being moved off this desk where nobody sat. People would just leave random office supplies (like extra staplers, scissors, pens etc) that they weren't using so that if you were at the copy machine and needed a stapler, you didnt have to go all the way back to your office.

I guess somebody needed a stapler at their desk so they took the stapler off that desk. This girl FLIPPED THE FUCK OUT in an email to everybody in the office. Said that it was "stealing" to take stuff off that desk. And that she would find the guilty party. I had saved that email for the longest time bc it was just too insane to not save.

I believe she quit shortly after that.

I was a bartender and used to get scapegoated by the kitchen a lot because I wasn't always the best employee. The owner was also the chef and tended to believe his kitchen staff over me for everything.

He tried to fire me once, but the front of the house manager talked him out of it since he knew I wasn't to blame for half the shit they put on me.

Fast forward to the next Friday in the middle of a dinner rush. I had a table of 6 waiting over an hour for their food. When the expo shows up with the food he's holding only 1 plate. The table was already pissed for the long wait, and was livid when I sat one plate in front of them and then turned around to see the runner with empty hands.

I had a minor panic attack knowing I'd get blamed for this shit and fired so I quit right then and there.

I've never seen one in my place of work, but my older, burn-out surfer brother does this like its his hobby. Always cussing out customers or his boss, breaking shit, kicking holes in walls. Yeah my brother is kind of nuts.

Yeah, one guy was an engineer who wasn't very good at what he did and who got highly agitated whenever he had his work checked (peer reviewed) and redlined. He would disagree because, at the time, we had a confrontational error checking system that led to passive aggressive behavior between teammates that didn't like each other (and overly generous behavior between those that did). If he didn't try to fight the redlines he got, he would have lost his job.

So, some time around or after performance reviews one day he had some redlines presented to him and our usual policy on these things was explained again for how it applies to the specific job aaaand he flips out and starts screaming GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY CUBICLE. GET THE FUCK OUT. And basically gets all ready to fight this guy for doing his job. They initially tried to fire the guy who presented the redlines and was threatened as well as the guy who did the threatening, then eventually relented and just quietly escorted the psycho guy to his car one day and told him his employment was terminated and to go home. BUT THEN REDLINE GUY WAS PUT ON FINAL NOTICE! Management didn't really like redline guy.

[Edited on October 22, 2014 at 8:22 PM. Reason : Also from the sounds of it our executive management would get pretty hot sometimes.]

true story:
saw a transmission cooler line line pop off a full size van with engine cover off and spray hot trans fluid all over a guys pants in the driver seat. the exhaust manifold lit him on fire. he kinda flipped out running around with his pants on fire. a coworker hit him with the fire extinguisher and we all went back to work.

Aha, oh yeah. Then there was one time an argument between a SW Dev and a Systems Engineer got into an argument, which escalated into a shouting match that the entire floor heard. It ended with the System engineer huffing and puffing, yelling, and standing over the SW Dev pointing down at him, as if he could somehow bully him into coding under duress

And the SW Dev jus leaning back in his chair like

Yep, seen a couple. Unfortunately can't talk about them (yet). The worst is when someone you work with or around is universally known for being an evil, awful person but no one is willing to stick their necks out to be the whistleblower.

I've seen a few. one sales guy stealing another guy's sale, thus his commission. Another time two older ladies (both in their late 50's/early 60's) having an argument over petty shit in the back room. I think those are the ones worth mentioning.

Sorry that may have been a little understated.

I had a full blown panic attack. I knew I was going to lose my job for some bullshit reasons, so i just walked into the back, sat down on a stool and refused to get up.
It wasn't a chair-flipping, finger-flippin, four-letter word tirade that others experience, but it was pretty freaky outty for me.

If you've never had a panic attack, its scary in itself. I couldn't walk, and being in the back of the restaurant just made things worse. I had to call a ride to get home and return in an epic walk of shame to get my car the next day.

Lesson learned...if you're good in the kitchen, stay there, front of house work may pay better, but stick to what you're good at.

Actually I do have one I can share (and I caused it).

I had a coworker that loved to prank other people in the office but would absolutely flip her shit if anyone tried the same back on her. It was super annoying because she thought it was funny when she did it, but would report any pranks on her to upper management immediately.

So one night I was working later than usual and decided enough was enough. I went into her office, rolled her expensive ergonomic chair out into the open team room and proceeded to disassemble it.

I knolled it on the ground down to the individual screws. It took up a solid 20 sq ft. Then I went home.

She arrived the next day, and was giddy about the prank, thinking it was on someone else. She thought it was hilarious until she went into her office, realized it was her chair, and the crazy began. She spent the entire day (and several weeks after) trying to figure out who did it through every possible means. Bribery, threats, coercion, crying, etc. Fortunately everyone kept their mouth shut (they all hated this behavior) and she got the message and stopped pulling shit on people.

I did end up having to put her chair back together along with another coworker, but she thought we did it because we felt sorry for her, and was very appreciative for my help.

My boss pulled out a 22 revolver and shot at a guy's feet. We'd told the dude he couldn't enter the party (it was way overcrowded) and he just kept walking. So my boss fired the weapon, the guy said, "Save it, old man, we both know you're not gonna shoot me," and my boss tackled him. Aftermath? The guy left and there were no repercussions.

Another time, when I worked at a pet store, a little person (midget? dwarf?) came in. Turned out that one of my coworkers had a pathological fear of little people. In the middle of working with a customer she shrieked and ran into the back room, where she curled into a ball and rocked back and forth for about half an hour. The little person and our boss were cool about it.

I once heard this phone call be made to a client, verbatim:

"I got your message regarding your claim. If you ever call me again, do not speak that fast or I will NOT call you back and your policy will be cancelled for good" *slams down phone*

It was 7 at night and we were the only ones still working, but I don't think they knew I was still there.

Some guy didn't flush the urinal and one of my co-workers said something about it.
Arguing ensued.
Then they went out on the lawn to fight in their slacks and buttondowns.
RIP career.

my first job was at a pizza place that had a "fancy" Italian restaurant attached. basically, they threw 16 year old ncsuallday in as a waiter with no training at all in a "white tablecloth" place. basically, nobody tipped for shit because it was a by the slice pizza place trying to be 518 West in the next room but I got all the free food I could eat, and we weren't ever really that busy.

I got the boss to hire my friend and the two of us would just dick around most of the time. one night, we had a huge party of people that was after a soccer game or something and the kitchen just could not keep up. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong and we ended up getting no tip and emotions were definitely high.

the manager was blaming us while we tried to blame the kitchen and basically my friend and the boss got in a screaming match and so she quit and took her arm and dragged off everything on the table, breaking glasses everywhere, etc. I just stood there amazed by what I saw and my boss turned to me and said he'd double my wage if I stayed but I quit - we had a pact that if one of us quit / was fired, the other would leave so I did.

^^ He seemed to have issues with other peoples bathroom etiquette, but he was a cool dude otherwise.

This was also back when urinals had water in them, so he would have been splashing another guy's piss on his shoes when he peed.

One of my former co-workers had always been nutty. She needed to be let go for a long time before she finally was. We were never sure what caused them to finally chop her, but she seemed to go fairly quietly when it happened.

Except then she went off her rocker. We are pretty sure she stopped taking some sort of meds. She was incessantly texting everyone whose number she had at all hours of the night. When we ignored her and management asked her to stop harassing the employees, she started smearing us all on Facebook, particularly the company itself. Her grammar devolved to where she was posting like a three-year-old talks.

She showed up in the parking lot one day at lunch, and everyone was a little freaked out, but she just creeped out a few people as they came back to work and then left. I have no idea what happened after we all blocked/defriended her.

A guy came in to work just to throw his phone/badge/keys down and walk out at my last job.

I talked to him later and the funny thing was he was not even mad at the job, his wife told him she was fucking some guy from her work and wanted a divorce. The next day he followed up on that by sabotaging his own finances so she couldn't get shit. He went from having a stable middle class job with good insurance and benefits to being unemployed and living on the west coast.

I think he cashed out his retirement account too and pissed that away while he was not working and the divorce was pending. He left her with the apt lease and everything and did not pay another dollar toward rent, utilities, or any bill that was not only in his name. I guess he decided the guy she was fucking could help her out if she came up short.

I see him on Facebook occasionally posting pics with his kid now so they must have gotten all the custody shit worked out, he looks happy. Maybe sabotaging your finances is the best way to get back a cheating whore wife.

I had a coworker flip his shit when he got fired. Motherfucker came in late ALL THE TIME for months. He was like 35 and the assistant manager, but could not be bothered to show up on time (he stayed up late and 1-2 nights a week he worked as a dealer at illegal poker games). One day he came in almost three hours later when he did not have to show up until 11, and my parents were in town and wanted to take me out to lunch. The manager had three stores over a couple hours drive apart and lived in another state, so she was unable to micromanage his schedule, and I and the other two coworkers did not want to narc him out. But when he could not be bothered to open the store on days he was opening at 11 am on his own, shit got real as the owner came by one day and found out, and put the notice out to the manager.

Finally after a short period of verbal warning, probation, further verbal warning, he was given a written warning (saying this was the last notice and the next one he would be fired) after showing up like 20 minutes late. The manager drove down to deliver the written warning in person and he flipped his shit because it was only 20 minutes. He left, went home and got his extra shirts and stuff, and came back and blew up at the manager again. Told her to fuck off, take her job as he didn't need it, etc. etc. The best part though was that he threw the shirts down, took his shirt off that he was wearing and tossed it on her desk (thankfully he had an undershirt on), then proceeded to grab his business cards and walked out the door and chucked them in the air all across the sidewalk and parking lot in front and covering the cars too. Then he squalled tires out in his Toyota Camry and left. Fun times.

I was in the middle of professionally quitting my job very peacefully with the full two weeks notice when my boss flipped her shit. Her husband was there in the office with us which was odd but she started berating me. (Side note. I was quitting because when I was hired during the summer the corporate trainer hired me on as a full time employee but when business slowed down they cut my hours. I also had made a deal with the corporate trainer to work every holiday to get Christmas off but the local manager nixed that in favor of giving her friend she had JUST hired the day off she had a family. The manager had also started taking tons of time off leaving me and the assistant manager to run the place. )

Anyways the manager was screaming at me and insulting me and said "if you couldn't handle the job you shouldn't have taken it." My response was "I can handle my job just fine. I'm just tired of doing yours, too." Her husband cocked his arm back and looked like he was going to punch me. The assistant manager busted through the door and said "I've got 9 and 1 dialed do I need to keep going?" Then the manager accepted my 2 weeks notice, but took me off the schedule every day except new years day and she scheduled me alone that day. It was Christmas break and the 186 kennel facility was full of dogs. I told her I was gonna be sick that day, dropped my shit on the floor and walked out. After I left the assistant manager quit. A kennel tech came in to defend me and she fired him. The play time associates (high school girls) all quit because they were really only sticking around because the tech that got fired was hot. Then all but 2 of the rest of the staff quit because they didn't want to deal with the after math. So the manager and 2 techs were left, and the next day she was walking a dog and it got off leash and she broke her leg chasing it. Last I heard (and this was years ago) she was still working there as a dog bather.

This is what happens when you give the job of managing a full service mega huge boarding facility to a Walmart jewelry counter assistant manager.

Slappy1 I did too which was why I was putting in my 2 weeks. Christmas and new years would be over and most dogs would be gone. I think our schedule only had 30 or so dogs left by the time I would be done. Even when she screwed with the schedule I was planning on staying and finishing my shift but she made me leave.

I didn't see either of these firsthand, but we had this fucked-up Marine (electronics/avionics technician) back in my squadron at Cherry Point...he got sent home from Iraq (or was it Afghanistan? Iraq I think) due to flipping out and chambering a round in his M-16 in the chow hall because somebody was busting his balls or something.

He also failed a room inspection in the barracks one time because he had pissed in the toilet and not flushed it. The chief of his maintenance division, an old, fiery Master Sergeant, went to go chew his ass. As soon as the conversation started, this crazy fucker (big dude, too) raises his fist up in the air, and the Master Sergeant (a former Golden Gloves boxer) is about to lay him out...until the dude swings his fist down and hammer-fists himself directly in the balls, collapsing thereafter on the hangar deck groaning.

We have a guy at work who is a chubby lazy fuck, kinda slow, always has his mouth open, and we call him sleepy bear becuase he is in a permanite state of "waking bear from hibernation"

Sleepy bear had one job on this day. One fucking job, a very improtaint, yet easy job. A no fail job that is high visibility, but easy as fuck., and he didn't do it. Why? Becuase sleepy bear slept in and missed the time the job had to be done (8am)

I went on a Clark Griswold rant, to my close peers who laughed and away from everyone else, and sat back down in my office. I resume the normal drag of life that is paper work in the military and drift off into time untill.....

I see sleepy bear putt along the road and park a solid 3 hours late, pt was at 630, he mozys in at 945. I start seeing red, grab my hat and proceeded to meet him in the parking lot.

My First Sergeant beats me to the door, standing outside of the glass door, pushing it closed with two hands, laughing/yelling "it's not bear season! It's not woth it!" I yell though the door, not cussing becuse junior Soldiers are gathering, "it's bear hunting season Davey Crockett! Theres one right there!"

Sleepy bear looks up from his waddling Chubby stride and although I couldn't hear him, I can see him give the usual "huh me?" through the wheezing lungs of cigaret smoke and twinkle crumbs inhaled.

After more bear hunting banter and me trying to push open the door, which is now an outright comedy show, my boss shows up. Just fucking great.

"did the job get done?" , litterlaly the first question from my boss. This is always the best case scenario to interact with your boss, him walking up to you as you try to break down a door and screaming about bears and Davey Crockett.

Thank God he was tracking sleepy bear's lazy fuck face tendencies, and he knew I reminded the guy the night before, so I got off the hook for the dropped ball. He told me to take leave and turn my work phone off the next week, which is an amazing gift form Jesus himself.

This thread is relevant to me. I am a month in at my new position, and am looking for an exit already. Boss is a dick. You can be honest and forthcoming, but do it in a way where you won't shit on your employee's morale. I am not sensitive, but the pattern in behavior is discouraging. So, I'm out.

I've never seen one mid-meltdown but, where I worked about 10 years ago, I had an employee tell me that his monitor had fallen over and broken and he needed a new one. I arrived in his office to find the flat-panel screen *completely* shattered with a very noticeable dent in the center of it. That sucker didn't fall over, or even fall onto the floor. It had very clearly been hit, hard, in anger. I didn't feel like I was in the proper position to call him out (I was a new full-timer and he was a database admin who'd been there for a long time) but I did mention to the lead hardware guy exactly what I thought.

Not sure if anything ever came of it, but smashing the fuck out of your monitor definitely qualifies as a flip out.

When I worked in a newsroom, one of the copy editors got pissed because a reporter took his on-again off-again girlfriend out for drinks one night. He waited until the reporter went home, went into his cubicle, and raked off everything on the guy's desk onto the floor. Equipment, years' worth of interview notebooks, newspapers, lamps, etc. Then, for good measure I guess, he colored the guy's entire computer screen with a yellow highlighter. He got a week of unpaid leave.
