i have seen Charlie Daniels 3-4x, Hank Williams Jr 3x, David Allan Coe once, Zac Brown Band 2x, Alabama, Robert Earl Keen 4x (i think), Reckless Kelly, Junior Brown, the Lost Trailers (before they went pop country), and even Merle fuckin' Haggard.
I have shitloads of old vinyl of people like Randy Travis, Vern Gosdin, George Jones, etc.
I like country music.
...but I couldn't name any of the shittiest country songs from the last 5 years, or mostly the last 10 years, because it would be pretty much all of them, and I don't listen to country radio at all any more. I've completely written it off as a lost cause. Goddamn what a heinously terrible genre of music it has become, aside from some of the Texas country and alt-country stuff that isn't on any major label and doesn't get any airplay. 10/24/2014 3:01:13 AM |

Anything by Luke Bryan. God he sucks.
I hope we get over this "bro country" fad pretty quickly, because it has ruined country music. But to say it is all bad today isn't being fair to some of the more talented artists. I think Brad Paisley has some good stuff out there.
If you look back to the 90's...there were some good standouts, but there was also some really bad stuff back then too. 10/24/2014 8:44:47 AM |

Meh. These five come to mind:
Blake Shelton - Boys 'Round Here http://www.youtube.com/embed/JXAgv665J14 Luke Bryan - That's My Kind of Night http://www.youtube.com/embed/crCqWK3SmRo Jerrod Niemann feat. Pitbull - Drink To That All Night(Remix) http://www.youtube.com/embed/mXx3DVppCwg FGL feat. Jason Derulo - This is How We Roll(Remix) http://www.youtube.com/embed/wO9t7PSoij8 Miranda Lambert & Carrie Underwood - Something Bad http://www.youtube.com/embed/o4Yzj-m_SBk
Though I would include "Truck Yeah" from the first one as well.
I don't mind "bro-country" as much as some, but some of these songs are just horrible. Really can make a list from just Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, and Luke Bryan songs, they've put out some stinkers. Pretty much all of the remixes with rappers/R&B artists have been garbage as well.
But to be fair, a lot of the legends putting out songs lately(George and Garth in particular) have put out some crappy songs too. I love Garth and was stoked he's back on tour and seeing him next month, but his new single is pretty crappy.

I like that "Talladega" song from Eric Church.
Most of today's "country" is just top 40 pop music with a southern accent.

Love that Eric Church "forces" being country when the dude is from NC and went to school at App State, haha.
He's country. I'd actually say he tries more to be anti-pop country to the point of trying to be too Waylon Jennings/Merle Haggard/Johnny Cash in his music than anything.
I tend to not hate on anyone who writes a majority of their own music, that includes Kasey Musgraves, Eric Church, and even early FGL. 10/24/2014 10:14:40 PM |

Hahah I love the term "bro country" as that pretty much sums it up, but I would also agree with not being able to stand the "If you don't buy my record, Al Qaeda wins" crap. Unfortunately so long as it sells it will continue. In many of these songs the fake harmonies and autotuned vocals are horrendously obvious.

I can forgive Brad Paisley, for the simple fact that he can make any guitar his bitch. Same with Keith Urban.
Another gripe I have, and its something that is as old as country music videos. Why does everybody have to strum an acoustic? I think its great that you know C, G, and F, and you want to show that skill off to everybody, but it isn't necessary. Just sing, if that is what you're good at. 10/28/2014 8:06:17 AM |

Quote : | "Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line looks like country music's take on Scott Stapp, with his flowing hair and affinity for bare skin and crosses. While on stage he and Brian Kelley and the rest of the band all sported one of their own band's T-shirts. Yes, they're an entire band of "that guys." Hubbard also handled most of the band's singing duties, including occasionally dropping into a rap-like cadence while Kelley stood around playfully strumming an acoustic guitar that's nowhere to be heard in the mix. Congrats bro-country, you have your Limp Bizkit.
Florida-Georgia Bizkit's performance came to a giant apex of overtly stitched denim, explosions and smoke when the band launched into their current hit song "Dirt." This is not said lightly, but "Dirt" might be the single worst song to be a No. 1 hit in the history of country music, though we're about 5 years away from Axl Rose going country in a cash grab. Accept it, America: We're getting a pedal-steel version of "Patience" and the country audience is gonna eat it up.
"Dirt" contains lyrics like "We all came from it" and "Build your corn field, whiskey bonfires on it" and for the love of everything I swear it's like the people who love these songs don't realize that none of them are actually farmers. It took everything in me to not turn to the dad sporting Puma branded golf gear and point out that driving a truck does not autocratically make one the Marlboro Man. Oh, and the band played "Dirt" twice just in case you were wondering how hard they were pushing the single." |
Quote : | "Oh, and Jason Aldean played. He sang songs about dirt roads as well, and he also did that "rap, but don't call it rap because you know RACE" thing, and people cheered, and sang, and drank beer, and violently made out in public, because "fuck social contracts, baby, I'm seven beers in, and we heard this song once, let see what each others' tonsils feel like with our tongues."
The whole set wasn't good in any semblance of the word. In fact it was very, very, very, very (12 more verys can go here) bad. But honestly, railing against it is pointless because he's being left in the dust by a newer, bro-ier generation. Hopefully Aldean enjoyed this last go on top, because Florida-Georgia Line stole his schtick, de-aged it a bit and then took its shirt off to show off some killer abs, bro. Gexa might have been my personal hell on Saturday, and I damn sure never want to go through something like this again, but at least I got a tank of gas out of it. Thanks kid, hope that cop let you off." |
