8 AM is too early. 9 AM is probably the cut off.

they should make sound ordinances change by season. 7AM (usually the cutoff for sound ordinances in most places) isn't that early in summer, but it's early as shit in winter.
also, work starting hours should change too 10/25/2014 11:19:20 AM

I've never even really thought about this. I grew up with no real neighbors...we lived in a real rural area so this was never an issue. And since then I've only lived in apartment complexes. So I guess I can't speak from experience with neighbors and stuff. But 10:00 seems more than reasonable. And certainly not rude. 10/25/2014 9:27:14 PM

Yeah, no issue with this. What I do have an issue with is apt. complexes having the guys come by to run the leaf blowers at 8AM on the weekend.
I work third shift so it sucks no matter what when it's going on in the morning, but you could easily have that stuff done weekday mornings when most residents are at work. 10/25/2014 9:30:38 PM

Not true. Poor people are usually up pretty early. Gotta start early if you want to sit on your porch all day or make multiple walking trips to the corner store to buy 1 scratch off at a time. 10/26/2014 4:11:05 PM

Mowing your yard at 8am ON A WEEKEND is a dick move

I'm not poor, and I routinely sleep until or past 9:00 on the weekends, or even when I was in the Marines if I had an afternoon or evening flight and wasn't going in to work until later. Also, being up until 3 am isn't that crazy, and I'm 35. If I close the bars down at 2 am, by the time I walk to my car and get home, it will be 2:40, maybe 2:45. By the time I'm in bed, it's gonna be right at 3.
Also, I have a pretty nice brick house that's only a couple years old, so it's well insulated. I'm also a pretty heavy sleeper, and my bedroom is about as far from neighbors' yards as it can be, so I don't often have a problem with this (though I have once or twice).
Regardless of all that, if you mow the lawn at 8 am, though, you are a fucking douchebag. 10 am-10pm is the window for making noise outside unless you know it's OK with your neighbors.

I'm surprised so many people are down on mowing your lawn early. I agree people mowing their lawn at 7-8 are annoying, but from June to August is hot as fuck. I actually envy them because I'm drenched in sweat by the time I finish mowing my lawn and I start at 10.
Shit, some guys came out to work on my fence and they started at 7ish. I felt bad for the neighbors, but those motherfuckers were sweating like crazy before most people wake up on a Sunday. The neighbors can deal with it. 10/26/2014 6:24:05 PM

I can barely sleep past 7am most days...8am is big time sleeping in for me. During the summer I routinely start yard work by 8 am so I'm not passing out in 100 degree weather at noon. Your lazy ass can take a nap when I'm done at 10 am and ready to head to the beach. 10/26/2014 6:31:09 PM
|
Kurtis636 All American 14984 Posts user info edit post |
The only thing that makes that acceptable is knowing that your neighbor can easily take a nap while golf is on in the afternoon. 10/26/2014 6:35:30 PM

Yeah, I actually don't really mind if it's being done by a commercial service, or if construction workers are framing a house with an air hammer or something. That's their job; they're working for a business, and they work during normal working hours.
It's people who could do it anytime (even if it means scheduling your day so you aren't doing it ass early, or if it means doing it another day) who piss me off. It's as much principle as it is nuisance. I'd be irritated at them even if I was awake, just because they are being douchebags.
