Hey guys. I know there are some cynical people in here and I am worried about posting this but figured SOMEONE could help me?

What tires SHOULD I get for a 2008 Cadillac SRX V6?

Everything I have found is in the 1,000 dollar range and I do NOT want to skimp. I prefer Michelin or Goodyear and can't tell a damn bit of difference between any of them. I want better gas mileage, a smooth ride, and for the damn things to last me until I sell the car.

Also..while I have you...when one tire starts showing the wire how long ya got?

The MXMV4 Michelin Primacy tires should go 50+k miles, are quiet, and are wonderful commuter tires.

If you see cord, stop driving the car. I didn't do that once, thought I had a little time to get new tires ordered, then about 5 days later I had the tread separate from the sidewall completely while on I-40. If the sidewall had bent outward rather than inward, I probably would have destroyed the rim too (to say nothing of what could have happened if the tire had blown out rather than just suddenly going flat before separating).

I had some camber wear back in the day, and throughs I could go a little longer.
Sudden tire pressure drop surprised me on the highway. The chords were showing, and was just a mesh barrier to the inside of the tire.
Having wire show means you have already gone through the warning area.

Well maybe you can call me lazy for being in school so that is why I wanted to ask you guys? I can get these on by Friday. Everywhere that had those tours were 250 plus! Is there anywhere else I can look for cheaper? I looked at sams, bjs, just tires, merchants, online, EVERYWHERE! I want to get our the door less than 800. Any help? So far you guys have been good!

As for the wires, it is one tire and I am praying, just like a pray and pull.

When you buy a midsized/large luxury SUV you get large wheels and tires. Comes with the territory.

Regardless, tires affect the daily performance and safety of your vehicle more than anything else, and thus should not be something you skimp on.

Are they not the same? Staggered sizes aren't super common on non-performance vehicles. Even less so on ones with AWD...

these people want to sell you tires, just tell them what vehicle you have and what your budget is and let them work it out. i found tires that would be well under your budget (even with install) in under a minute, any tire shop should be able to as well. that might not mean it's in stock, but they can get it in a day or two

the other solution is to wait until your tire blows and potentially injure yourself (which is fine) or someone else (not fine) because you are being a lazy car owner who has more vehicle than they can afford

wish I had known about discount tire about 4 years ago when I was replacing the tires on my truck ...woulda saved me lots of moneys. Found some good, name brand tires on there for my truck just now for like 80 bucks a piece...i paid over 300 for just two tires last time I changed them

guys, I wasn't driving my car once I posted. I ended up leaving it at Just Tires and they took forever to get the back. I have the goodyear assurance triple tread directional tires. They got them for me and my oil change and the guy was trying to charge me 805 when I intitially was told 712...so I paid 712 and got these 4 awesome tires put on and an oil change. They told me my tires can't be rotated, which I know but that every 3,000 they will balance them for me. They also told me that my alignment was somewhat out but that was another 90 bucks and I could go for now...just that I need to watch the inside and out of these tires as they go from the outsides in, etc. But NOW I know to always come here and ask you guys. That being said...what do you think about my purchase, and what should I do to make these damn things last until December 2016 when the car is paid off? Thanks!

$712? I guess that's about the same for Tire Rack if you ordered them online and got them shipped. The $60 rebate is a wash to get a shop to mount them for you. So price wise, seems like you did alright.

If the noise gets to you in the next day or so, I'd take them back and look at getting Continental TrueContact.

Otherwise, you don't seem to have a wide variety for choices here for a good tire...

i'm going to expand on my previous post:

you spent more money for tires with lower tread ratings than what was posted when you should want tires to last as long as possible because of your budget problems; you know your alignment is out of spec and are not paying $90 to fix it even though not fixing it will definitely wear your new tires prematurely and you can't afford new tires; you bought tires that you can't rotate side to side even though you know your alignment is off and will cause uneven wear which would further necessitate wanting to rotate tires

Yeah I'll more or less agree with that. They might be good tires, but they're probably a bad choice for this owner with this vehicle.

...but oh well, too late now, and it'll be fine, but go get your shit aligned so you don't fuck up your new tires.

^^^ surely it can't be THAT hard to find tires that'll work, especially if you go +/- 10mm on the width, which would be fine.

Staggered, directional tires are a motherfucker. I have lost track of how many sets of such tires I've worn out in 10k miles or less...sometimes as little as 7500-8000. Granted, they were all much softer, higher performance tires than these (Star-Specs, NT-05s, PS2s, Azenis, Advans, etc), on more powerful cars, with more aggressive camber specs, and a more aggressive driver...but still, part of the reason is that they would wear into shoulder, and if you have both a staggered and directional setup, there's nothing you can do but suck it up until they're worn out on the shoulder, then replace them.

At least there was good reason for my cars to be staggered and for me to be running directional tires, though. Cadillac's odd decision to stagger the tires on a glorified minivan is unfortunate, but there's nothing that can be done about that (at least not that's worthwhile), but I would choose non-directional tires in the future.

It's no catastrophe or anything, just not what I would do for future reference.


...but go get your fucking car aligned, or you will likely have an opportunity to choose different tires again sooner than you expect.

Sidebar: The current SRX is a glorified minivan. The SRX that sag1804 owns is based off the CTS sedan and is a RWD platform. In the hierarchy of shitty crossovers it actually was pretty up there in terms of handling and driving enjoyment...

Which makes it all the more frustrating that the newer, FWD based SRX is considerably more popular than the old one

i bet your warranty requires that you keep your vehicle aligned, probably all they have to do is look at the wear pattern you will have (and the note in the system that you declined that estimate) to deny your claim. (my tire warranty requires rotating too, but i assume you meet an exemption for that)

also, remember that the warranty is prorated

without a proper alignment, i've worn out tires in 3k. with a proper alignment, i've worn them out in 10k like duke. depends on compound, alignment, vehicle (especially weight) and driving style. align it and you'll be fine until it's paid off, assuming you don't have worn suspension keeping it from staying aligned

what does rotating tires look like on a staggered setup with directional tires? just taking them off and putting them back on.
