Fareako is growing a mustache, but it's more a deployment 'stache sort of thing than a Movember thing

I stopped shaving a few months ago, and I don't plan on shaving til the spring at least.

I did trim my moustache because it sucks to eat your hair all the time. But I probably won't trim anything else

Is it just because beards, or is there a formal cause behind it?

No Shave November...is that an official thing? Or is it just an excuse for those who want to participate in Movember without having to donate to charity or adhere to the mustache-only guidelines of Movember?

Movember is a worldwide charity event for prostate cancer research and is supposed to be a 30 day challenge to start with a freshly shaven face and grow only the mustache during that time. You can do it solo or sign up a team and raise donation funds through sponsors and things like that.

If "no shave november" is a thing I guess i'm participating considering i haven't shaved since July and will not be shaving again until at least July 2015. 12 month beard challenge > any one month contest

I havent shaved yet, but at some point I need to get my haircut and then its gonna look stupid so I will have to shave and start over. Should have planned this out and got it cut earlier I suppose.

I hadn't shaved in about 2 months already and that shit was getting unbearable. Had to break down and stop being lazy the other day.

You fuckers with beards use beard oil or anything to keep your face from drying out like crazy?

I am participating.

My neck beard has connected to my chest hair. I feel like I should wear a turtleneck to work.

beard oil is better on fuller, longer beards. It's used to help soften the hairs and avoid split ends. Beard hairs are coarse and the longer they get the more they can fray or dry out. I wash my beard with soap every 2-3 days and apply beard oil every morning. But it also helps the skin underneath some too. I never use it on days or weeks long beards because it tends to make my face feel greasy at that length. If I have a short beard I just use something like Cetaphil Daily Facial Cream. It's not too heavy so i apply liberally.

that being said, beards produce a natural oil so i've never had an issue with a beard drying my skin out.

2 months growth would have been fine to start using some oils. Do you have naturally dry skin? I've never experienced beard dandruff.

Over washing your beard can dry it out a lot worse than the hair on your head. Maybe you were using a harsh face wash or shampoo? If you grow it back out try not to wash it so much. Just run water through it and then a light soap/shampoo every few days.

I get beard dandruff every winter when i grow my beard, and I hardly ever wash my face with soap... (i also get it on my head in the winter). What kind of oil? Sounds kinda icky.... but so is dandruff.

^^^ Usually don't have a problem with dry skin at all, but I was definitely washing it every day, so I'm sure that was a pretty big factor.

The two primary oils are either Jojoba or Argan oil. Below is what I currently use. It's great for the price because you get a ton of it and it has an eye dropper in the cap so you aren't pouring it all over yourself. It's also unscented, which you may prefer. I enjoy something with a scent so i'll be ordering something else when I run out.

Also, it sounds like it would be heavy and greasy, but i use roughly a dime sized in a 5 month long beard and after rubbing it in the hairs absorb most of it and there is almost no excess.

if you are weary of oils you could try this...
http://www.amazon.com/Honest-Amish-Beard-Balm-Conditioner/dp/B009NNFB0O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415974567&sr=8-1&keywords=beard+oil

i've never used it, but it's the #1 rated beard product on amazon. more of a balm than a liquid oil.

I use coconut oil (for cooking) and it's been working pretty well for me since August. It smells like coconut for a little while but evidently starts to smell like soap after 12 hrs or so.

Previous beard attempts (without any oil) have ended in a desperate shave due to welt-like zits on my face/neck. This time I have had a couple come and go, but just managed not to fuck with them too much and everything is working out better. My hairs are a good 1" long and I've got a real grizzly adams look going.

Ah - yeah I don't have any dryness or breaking out issues. Just wondering if oil gave you any other benefits.

softens the hairs, prevents split ends, makes it easier to brush and tame.
