I'm not fond of it overall because of this about us and Purdue:

our RPI is 18-21 but Kenpom still has us way below Purude. We also had votes in the AP poll so I don't think we're that undervalued.

Are RPI and Kenpom really reliable this early?

I know Kenpom's preseason stuff doesn't account for freshmen...so this early it's still probably not a great indicator. And I don't know enough about RPI to know how reliable/credible it is this early

yeah it's a really small sample size, especially for kenpom.

I think realistically we're in the top 30-40 right now. An away win at Purdue and an early conference win at home against Wake will put us in the T25 coaches/AP

Why are most of you picking NC State over Purdue? Not trolling, just curious why you think we'll win. I think we have a potential matchup nightmare down low and being in a fairly hostile road environment, I don't see a W. :shrug:

I don't either, just saying if we do win it will be huge. If it was at home, I'd give State the edge but an away game, and especially our first away game I don't see us pulling this off.

Purdue has played arguably better teams than us with two of those coming form Power5 conferences and are ahead of us in most statistical categories.

Points Per Game: 27th vs. 56th for us
Rebounds: 117th vs. 4th for us but they do have some bigger guys than we've matched against
Assists: 18th vs. 206th for us
FG%: 24th vs. 164th for us

The rankings don't really mean all that much at this point in the season but I think we're going to have our hands full and the first away game will show how our freshmen will react when they don't have the crowd behind them

Purdue is mostly untested other than losing to Kansas State. KSU is 3-3 but had to play a few tough games early. Purdue had to go into overtime to barely win against BYU, but BYU is the top scoring team in the country right now (albeit to otherwise really crappy competition, other than losing to highly ranked San Diego State).

Which still leaves us with no way of knowing how good Purdue actually is.
