Hello tech folk,
I'm trying to record and edit some music and I'm having trouble getting stereo sound through my mic input on laptop. It is getting both L and R channels but is mixing it to mono for some reason. I'm not sure where to start here. Know of any good mic drivers?
sound coming out of a Line 6 M9 into separate mic jack on a HP G60 w/ windows vista
Thanks for your help.

how would you be getting stereo sound out of a single mic in the first place? 12/7/2014 1:58:36 PM |

I figured the mic jack would be a stereo plug just like the headphone jack. Stereo mics are pretty common. Are you saying that you think it's a mono jack? 12/7/2014 2:06:17 PM |

So according to the internet, the mic jack is mono. Why couldn't they make it a stereo line in? Ridiculous.
Guess I should pick up a DAC? What other options do I have to feed in stereo audio to record on Audacity? 12/7/2014 2:18:49 PM |

what are you recording in stereo? How are you recording in stereo? Why are you recording in stereo?
Why not record in mono and mix it however you like. 12/7/2014 10:14:33 PM |

I'm recording music that I'm making. The M9 http://line6.com/m9/ is a guitar effects modeler and some of the effects output stereo (stereo delay, ping pong, others). I'd like to use this as it processes the effects real-time and I'm familiar with it. Audacity will process some stereo effects but there are some noisy artifacts, like a high pitch sound in the phaser. I want to use Audacity to do some editing and arranging, but it would be really nice to get stereo sound into the computer straight out of the guitar pedal instead of trying to do it all in post. I actually just ordered this thing: http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UCA222-BEHRINGER-U-CONTROL/dp/B0023BYDHK/ref=pd_sim_e_7?ie=UTF8&refRID=1RNP9XBX0GZGFG5HXVCM so we will see how that does in a few days. 12/7/2014 10:54:59 PM |

I bought this thing 5+ years ago and was happy with it: http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Firewire-US35030-Audio-Interface/dp/B0006A9M3K/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1418045783&sr=1-1&keywords=m-audio+interface+firewire i'm sure there's a more modern equivalent. And it looks like that's kinda what the thing you linked is. I wasn't using it to get stereo. I was using it to improve performance/quality on a kinda crappy desktop and to provide a pre-amp for my mic. But it seems that it would output stereo as well.
