this makes me wonder if my mom still has all of our "childhood" ornaments. Around the time I was in HS my mom started treating Christmas as a time to completely transform the home decor and that included more fashionable tree decorations and none of the old-school homemade ornaments and things like that.

My mother has either kept all of mine or gave them back to me.

In kindergarten I made a construction paper bell with glitter, paper & yarn candy cane and a paper gingerbread man sewn together and stuffed with cotton balls coated with cinnamon, and every year she puts them up in their kitchen.

I have all of my hand-made ornaments from that era too, definitely makes the nostalgia strong. The best being a pair of 'candles' made from cardboard discs and plastic tubes with yellow tissue paper stuffed in the end to look like a flame. Our first grade class went to the local nursing home and we each gave one of our candles to one of the elderly folk. At the time it was pretty overwhelming as we basically were sent down the hallway on our own to give the items; since then its morphed into a fond memory.
