The premise of the Prison Industrial Complex is flawed in that it asserts there is an aggregate collusion among interests in the criminal justice system to exploit cheap labor through a "prison camp."

Rather than get into the merits, we'll just look at percentage of labor driving economies:

Looks like the theory that the Crim Justice Sys is in a conspiracy for cheap labor to feed monied interests is out the window of the data alone.

Addendum:

The real value of the inmates is that they are living and breathing humans.

The contracts to build the walls around them, feed them, and provide them with medical care is where the real money is. The influence of monied interests, if any, is not driven by putting them to work, imho, it is driven by scoring more contracts to house and contain people.


I actually would be in favor of a Prison Industrial Complex.

I think inmates should be given the right to work, and I believe in a modern day empire theory where we should actually be sending our convicts to our overseas battles much like a French Foreign Legion concept or a British empire idea

Would be better use than having them rot here for eternity and be useless.

The pontifications are great, but where is the data that shows that prison labor leads to tangible results. Do we not have a big enough sample size? lol oh right... all the data is owned by private institutions. To me its simple, private prisons incentivize having prisoners. What else is there to discuss?
