I'll give Avent this year. I like the young talent we have on the squad right now. Expect plenty of bumps in the road. But I do like some of the young talent. Looking forward to what they can do over the next few years.

No kidding. Fortunately for them (and Avent), no one is expecting them to either. This is very clearly a rebuilding year. The ACC had 6 top 25 teams to start the season and Georgia Tech may end up being ranked before long too. I doubt we get ranked this season unless we gel relatively quickly. We're projected pretty solidly in the middle of the conference; if we make the ACCT without having to win a play-in game, we'll have done very well for ourselves.

Like wolfpack2105 said, there are going to be bumps along the road, especially early in the season. It's college baseball, after all... good teams lose to lesser teams all the time. We lost to a 24-31 UNCG team the year we made the CWS. Were they as bad as Albany (based on last year's record)? Probably not, but it happens.

I don't think I remember our team traveling so little in one season. One trip to Boston, one to Indiana, one to South Florida. The next farthest is Myrtle Beach and everything else is in-state.

umm, that's not really any different than usual. since the UCSB games were cancelled last year, we played in Florida, Maryland, SC, and Virginia. year before that, it was Boston, Atlanta, SC, and Virginia.

we very rarely schedule non-conference series out-of-state other than with the occasional Virginia or South Carolina school, which are usually mid-week games that occur when we play an ACC opponent in that state. the only time I remember playing outside the ACC footprint since I started at State was when we played at San Diego State sometime in the mid-2000s while Tony Gwynn was coaching there, but I could be forgetting something.

Lost to Clemson 6-4.
All of Clemson's runs came after our errors/mistakes. First inning we had a tailor made double play with 1 out, but Willard dropped Ratledge's toss and Clemson scored on the next hit. In the 7th, Clemson loaded the bases and got to 2 outs. High fly behind home plate, back near the screen, and the ball went off Knizner's glove. Next pitch is wild and scores a run, followed by wild pitch ball four that allowed 2 runs to score. We couldn't do anything at the plate until Armstrong's solo homer to left in the 7th, and then Palmeiro hit a 3-run homer to right in the 8th.

The pitching for us went Wilder, Gilbert, Olczak.

Game 2 of the series is at 3:00.
