I don't think he's an idiot by any means, I just don't think he has the proper skill set for this job. They need someone with thicker skin.

well, there are many definitions for idiot, and i dont think hes mentally retarded, so lets go with:

"someone who acts in a self-defeating or significantly counterproductive way"

not having the proper skill set for the job and getting laughed at by the press seems to fit this nicely
