I know they love maple trees. my maple trees are covered with them from now until early may and then they're gone until next year. never really see them on other types of trees in my yard.

maple trees are probably not too common down in charleston i guess?

I walked into one hanging from a pine tree on the way into the office this morning. He got sacrificed on the edge of my trash can.

They're all over the place in Charlotte. Oaks, Pines, anything. Think they're a little worse here than some other places for some reason. And some areas in town are worse than others.
