Does typing out Goldsboro exceed the character max for the thread title?

I assume they'll find the gunman dead. Because if not, he's going to have a hard time hiding

So how do we feel if the victim really molested the perps brother?

well, uhhh....

what if the victim had made inappropriate advances towards a woman, and she'd then shot him? maybe he even waved his dick at her, maybe he even grabbed her tits?

I think we'd feel - I'd feel, anyway, that the crime would be at least slightly justified in this case. I wouldn't feel very sorry for the victim, anyway.

so, if this gay guy actually waved his dick at the murderer, or grabbed his balls, then I don't feel very sorry for him. but there's not any evidence of that having happened.

if he just made gay verbal advances, then, uhh, killing him was clearly going way over the top.

I'm just trying to be morally consistent. Seriously, if he'd made really lewd, improper, touchy advances towards a woman - waved his penis at her, snuck up behind her and then jammed his hand down the front of her pants - I wouldn't feel too terribly bad if the woman came back and shot him.

So why should I give the gay guy a pass? I don't understand.

I didn't say I'd feel okay about doing it. I said I wouldn't feel too bad if someone else did it, and I was in no way involved. There's a difference between being willing to carry something out, and just not being too bothered if it happens without any actions from you either way.

Like I said, I'm just trying to be consistent. Honestly, in my head it seems a lot worse for the straight guy to kill the gay male groper, than for the woman to kill the straight male groper; but I can't think of a good reason why. So, at least intellectually, I'm going to be equally unbothered/merely semi-bothered by both killings.

I guess part of it is, if the woman is allowed to kill the guy who sticks his hand down her pants - and many people would condone that - then I feel like men should be able to act similarly. Just trying to make sure my own gender doesn't get shortchanged, I suppose.

Have they released any details as to why this is being investigated as a hate crime?

because it appears that the teacher's sexual orientation was a motive to his murder? and because he has white supremacy (hate) tattoos all over his face?

Can someone explain to me why there are specific laws for 'hate crimes'? I'm not asking in a sarcastic sense, I'm legitimately curious.

This guy should fry regardless of whether or not the victim was gay.

i guess some people think that assaulting or killing someone simply because of their ethnicity or sexual orientation is worse than other motives like robbing them... but it is kinda stupid.

Lot of new info this morning. Dead guys boyfriend went missing over a year ago and then was found like a week later behind the guys house hanging in a tree and was ruled a suicide, but the boyfriends family was always suspicious. Also Lane started seeing his dead lover when he was 16 though the family thinks it may have started when he was 14, which could lend credence to the fact that the guy was making sexually inappropriate contact with the shooters little brother.

http://www.wral.com/family-questions-death-of-murder-victim-s-longtime-partner/14584841/

So now you have so many different ways this shit could go. Did this guy kill Lane's boyfriend and now get Lane? Did Lane kill his boyfriend? Sounds like he might have been pulling some illegal shit with his previous boyfriend so maybe the shooters allegation that he was talking to his little brother inappropriately aren't so crazy? Or maybe its all because this is eastern North Carolina and the gays. Either way, fucked up situation all around.

I thought about that too; if he began a relationship with a 14/16-year-old, he probably wouldn't have issues with starting at least a conversation with another. Hmm.

There's been so much racism in American history, we want to make it super-clear that we now have zero tolerance for any kind of discrimination. The "hate crime" label is just another way of illustrating our complete opposition to, and hatred for, bigotry.

I'm not sure I agree with the concept, but it's well-meant.

And I get that for certain crimes, say anti-Semitic graffiti on a Jewish person's house instead of just normal graffiti I think that is a terrific example of where hate crime legislature could be applied, however, for something like murder? Premeditated murder is premeditated murder.

Yea, I'm not arguing for or against the hate crime allegation, I just wanted to know what details led them to believe that it was indeed a hate crime.

Sure it's sketchy that a guy with white supremacist tattoos on his face kills a gay guy, but he also used to work for the guy. If Stancil killed the guy from some type of old work dispute, then it isn't a hate crime.

Just because a straight guy kills a gay guy, that doesn't mean it is a hate crime.

my guess (with no knowledge, of course) is that the gayness and a work dispute both played a part, with work dispute being a much greater motivation.

so perhaps it was only like 20% a hate crime.

I wonder, seriously, if there's some blanket policy whereby it's considered a hate crime if racism/discrimination is even slightly involved (analogous to if you murder someone while committing another felony, it's automatically 1st degree murder.) that would be stupid, but believable.

I know it probably shouldn't, but it is kind of blowing my mind that some are giving even a sliver of the benefit of the doubt to the insane, face-tattooed, murderous white supremacist

I guess I need to spell it out since tgl responds to my posts with bias.

There is absolutely no benefit of doubt given to Stancil here. The guy killed an innocent man and should fry or rot in jail without parole. He has admitted to the crime. I'm just asking the question of why is it being investigated as a hate crime. I wasn't even originally asking in a way that throws doubt on it being a hate crime. I just wanted to know what facts led to that decision. Did the guy admit that he hated gay people? Did he write some stuff down in a blog somewhere saying he was going to kill a gay man? I was just asking a simple question, not trying to throw doubt anywhere.

And if the guy was killed solely based on his sexual orientation, should that make the death penalty or life in prison penalty any worse?

Tell me, how am I giving this guy the benefit of doubt here.

Hey man that's a bigoted statement. The problem isn't about people with face tattoos, the problem is about the attitude towards people with face tattoos. People think that all people with face tattoos are Hannibal Lecters. But people with face tattoos are sons and daughters, politicians and doctors, American heroes and daughters of American heroes.
