yep, I do this.

sometimes I feel like an inhibited pussy for doing it, though, so then I pee in the water for a bit like "Yeah, I'm just a guy a taking a piss and it's normal for that to make noise." but then it's so loud that I go back to the side after a couple seconds. I imagine it's really awkward for anyone listening.

haha, i do the opposite. I try to make it as loud as possible.

exception is for middle of the night pissing. then it's all about not facing the wrath of waking up the wife.

lol i do the same.

in our office the bathroom (small office, 1 person bathroom) is right beside two coworkers' desks. so i try not to be all loud and waterfall-y sounding when i'm in there and then i think to myself "they saw me go in the bathroom, they know i'm using it, there's no need to be self-conscious about the noise". sometimes i'll turn the fan on to muffle the stream noise.

There are several benefits to sitting down to piss in the middle of the night:

-no loud splashing
-you can keep the light off, which helps getting back to sleep
-more comfortable than standing

Potential con:

-urge to take a shit might happen, where the light becomes necessary

I do this sometimes in the urinals but its more to avoid the splash back when you piss directly in the water. I don't really care that much about the audio experience for myself or others, but I do hate when it splashes back.

If I'm pissing in a toilet I just hit the water. Not worth the extra effort and my wife sleeps like the dead.
