the FPH stuff was just internet drama and not really that big of a deal beyond bigoted assholes.

Important aside: The Internet is crazy segregated, and that alone is very fascinating to observe. But, also, if you don't regularly text with, follow, etc...people from all walks of life, you're missing out on some excellent LOLs.

The girl that got fired was responsible for reading aloud questions submitted by users to celebrities and typing their responses, since apparently most celebrities can't read. Yesterday's special guest was Jesse Jackson, and the questions were brutal, comparing his business model to that of Al Capone and asking about the son he abandoned. She read the questions to him and dutifully typed his sprawling incomprehensible answers. No one's sure if Jackson threatened to sue or if the reddit management was just unhappy that she failed to censor the questions(they've been courting major advertising sponsorship lately and the dark undertones of the site are undesirable.) In any case they fired her and the mods of hundreds of subreddits suddenly realized they were volunteering massive amounts of their time to a corporate-owned business that couldn't care less about them.

She was a little more than a reader, though I bet her job title/description was probably as much.

For a site that suffered a lot of recent PR issues, she was supposedly one of the few employees who did a good job of fostering good will between admins and users. Her termination, barring anything criminal, was possibly the stupidest thing they've done in a while.

I don't think Pao deserves quite the shit piling she's received, but I'd still like to see her go.

And yeah, considering that the comments often accompanying said recent pissbaby tantrums often exhibited sexist and racist overtones, sure, you could say "the reason is...Men."

Worth noting she was not responsible for the AMA mishap, and did not fire Victoria.

Constant barrage of hate speech and death threats aside, she ostensibly resigned because "the board asked [her] to demonstrate higher user growth in the next six months than [she] believe[s] [she] can deliver while maintaining reddit’s core principles."

This news is pretty disheartening. Hopes for reddit becoming less of a shithole vanish.

Her reaction to the firing of the AMA chick is pretty great, btw. How many days did it take, while the site was shutting down, for her to actually do anything? And part of her apology was to appoint a community relations person who, by all accounts, was hated by the community? LOL

I never said she didn't piss people off. I said she didn't piss off the entire userbase. Not even close. I also said a large portion of those she pissed off are sexists and racists at the very least, which is pretty much a fucking fact considering fph and the astronomical upvotes and gold that bigoted comments directed toward her have received. I honestly don't see a reason to doubt that she's telling the truth. Sure, the swaths of immature manchildren probably made the decision easier, but unreasonable board expectations are a pretty common and reasonable reason for departure. Plus she was an interim CEO.

oh well. she'll go on to things that don't involve babying the feels of literally hundreds of thousands of yelling misogynists. maybe she can still direct some more positive change for the site in her adviser role through the end of the year.

I wish the media would realize that not all extremists represent everybody in a situation and frame the situation as such. Most protesters were not violent in Baltimore/Ferguson, just like many people who support flying the Confederate flag are not KKK loving racists and most people who are disgruntled about the way the reddit/Victoria situation was handled are not woman hating assholes with an axe to grind against Ellen Pao.

Did Pao supposedly discriminate based on gender? do you only bring up gender when it's convenient for your narrative? Pao on the other hand, has received tons of gendered harassment.

"not all reddit" are woman hating assholes but a pretty fucking large number of them are, e.g. 150,000 in FPH which is largely rooted in 'woman-hating' and 120,000 in TRP which is, just, woman hating. And I guarantee folks from those are among the loud voices of the past couple of weeks, considering the former's axe to grind.
