yeah i saw that photo shoot a few weeks ago... in many ways the soviet shuttle could have been better than our own... most notably because the launch system was a heavy lift rocket that had the capability of launching massive amounts of cargo instead of the orbiter. (Shuttle-C was an idea which was thrown around to allow STS to do something similar here in the US)

of course what would have been even better - Instead of a do-it-all space pick-up truck like the shuttle, a separate space Prius and a separate space tractor-trailer would have been more useful and adaptable.
