With the crazy amount of drama finally not including LeBron this offseason, it'll be interesting to see how this upcoming season plays out. I think Miami has made some great moves to challenge Cleveland in the east, while it looks like Golden State is looking to defend the title with the Clippers attempting to stay relevant.

Can't wait to see how this season plays out.

So y'all haven't done the thing where you gush about how sick the Spurs are gonna be?!?

"los spurs" seemed so sluggish in last seasons playoffs, but we'll see how much of an impact LMA actually makes. I wouldn't bet on them though to beat younger squads like GS, houston and memphis.

Houston has no depth. Los Spurs just added Duncan's eventual successor to go along with butterstick baller Kawhi. There is a reason they're the new prohibitive favorite to win it all.

The real question is, can the Hornets finish with a .500 record?

Hornets should if they can stay healthy. The East still stinks overall.

Spurs are the favorites in the west, but they still have a ton of competition to make it to the Finals if GS and OKC stay healthy.

Trevor Lacey's line in the Cavs Summer League opener against the Warriors:

6 points (2-5FG, 0-3 from 3pt, 2-2FT), 3 rebounds, 2 assist, 4 fouls, 1 turnover, 0 steals/blocks, in 17:47 of playing time

LOL Joel Embiid out for the 15/16 season as well, after another surgery on his broke-ass foot.

I wish I could get paid millions to be operated on.

Not sure the Spurs are really the favorites let alone the "prohibitive favorites."

GS returned everybody except David Lee.

Clippers look like they'll be at least as good as last year.

OKC gets Durant back.

Spurs just added a couple of big pieces and some depth, but unless Parker pulls out of the decline he's been on for the last couple of years they're still going to have a very hard time against more athletic teams like the 3 I listed above. OKC has made the Spurs look slow, old, and overmatched on the regular, I don't see that changing just by adding Aldridge and West while Tim, Manu, and Parker all got a year older and slower.

Dubs/Spurs are top tier teams. OKC would be a second tier team, and everyone else is below them. The Rockets and Clipps are both dysfunctional and poorly coached, so I don't see them being any better next year than they were this year.

All comes down to health.

Patty mills is better than parker. Clips should be about the same. Warriors about the same.

I don't like Durant, Westbrook, and ibaka chances of all being healthy but they are a juggernaut offensively if they are.

And can't count out cavs. Theoretically they should be the healthiest since they'll breeze through the east.

if healthy is the keyword. any average joe could have predicted kyrie would tweak his leg again during the finals. however i'd love to see a heat/cavs ECF

It seems like the press shot their wad over the Spurs offseason upgrade, but the clips have done everything that they needed to do an more. So, let's see.

^^I think at this point he may actually be the better player. Parker can't play starter's minutes anymore. I think Mills is less talented and doesn't have the ceiling Parker does, but I think if I had to pick between the two I'd take Mills for a full season. In the playoffs I think I'd rather have Parker, and I suspect that's how the Spurs will play it.

That Curry play is awesome. Utter confidence in his shot. Also I hope Barnes has a terrible season and has to sign a much lesser contract. Dude is not worth $16M even with the upcoming cap expansions.

Can we just go ahead and hand Anthony Davis the MVP this year? He's going to put up insane numbers and lead a team full of injured and mediocre players into at least the second round of the Wester Conference playoffs.

He might have the highest PER ever this season (last year was the 11th best ever). Monster, just a straight up monster.

the brow is definitely the future face of the NBA, however i wouldn't put money on the pelicans going past the first round. when was the last time an MVP came from a squad who didn't even get to the conference finals?

It's pretty rare, but I could see it happening if he does manage to drag them into the playoffs in the West and puts up absurd numbers.

Couple that with Lebron almost certainly playing far fewer minutes, Durant probably taking a little while to get back to form, Curry and the Warriors probably winning closer to 60 games instead of 70 this season and that's a recipe for a guy from an average team winning the MVP.

I mean, it isn't likely to happen, but he was clearly in the top 3 last year and is improving constantly. He might not win the award, but I feel pretty strongly he will be the best player in the NBA this year.

FTFY. 26 points in the first quarter alone, and 40 for the whole game.

I think AD is great, but he's still a few years away from being an MVP.

I'd like to point out that I believe Curry is a top 5 player (Lebron, Davis, Curry, Harden, Durant IMO) but his team is so loaded it might actually be hard for him to win the MVP again. Everyone knows how good Draymond and Klay are now. A lot of people believed, and they weren't entirely wrong, that Curry was the sole driving force behind that team making their run.

Davis has the opposite thing going for him. The Pelicans almost can't field a team right now, their entire starting lineup minus AD is injured in some way, shape, or form. Look at who they started last night other than Davis:

Dante Cunningham
Kendrick Perkins
Nate Robinson
Eric Gordon

Yuck.

If Davis somehow gets this team into the playoffs it will be because he's had an absolutely unreal season on both the offensive and defensive end. He legitimately has the chance to be the defensive player of the year and the MVP.

I'm not sure he will be able to have the same numbers as last year, so him repeating MVP is only a bit more likely than Davis winning his first imo. I like the Warriors chances to come out of the West, but the MVP race is a lot murkier to me. I'm not trying to downplay AD's talent/ability, but the MVP award has usually gone to the leader of a winning team. Who knows though. Some people have already started to turn on Curry and are calling him a hot dog/show boat.

Damn MVP talk already? Do we do this to with any other sport? Does anyone know who was the NFL MVP last year was?
Aaron? Brady?

I still can't get out my mind in last year finals Curry was getting shut down by Delladova for three games. Andre Iggy got the final MVP. I think he's the best shooter in the league. But Durant also sat out about all last year and he's back. The west is even more stack this year. We'll see. I still think the the Warriors can win over 60 tho.

Ehh, it's not uncommon to hear about MVP talk preseason when everybody is making their predictions. I'm not saying it based on their performance in game 1.

Yeah, Warriors will win over 60, but I don't think they're winning close to 70 this year like they did last year. 62-20 is more likely than last year's 67-15.
