Man, it's kinda of a pain especially with meat. Will try to buy 'natural' as a second choice, conventional as a third choice, and essentially avoid GMOs whenever possible. This is more of an experiment and not a 'I'm better than you' snob move. I really want to see what all the 'buzz' is all about. Please insert tips here.

i've always been of the opinion that you should eat whatever you want - i'm not gonna preach about you choose or choose not to consume. but, in general, the organic craze is silly to me. then again, i am biased. i grew up on our family farm (not organic) and have maybe a different perspective than others on this issue.

Haha.

Now, tell me, why should I care about that?

Anyway, I am not scared about eating GMOs, I just want to see if I can tell a difference if I try to go all hippie with my eating habits.

And to further clarify I have degree training and working knowledge of genetically modified organisms so I am not a 'Republican' about it, I know facts.

Well, so far so good. It's not expensive as people make it out to be. You just have to be willing to cook. And there is a lot of gimmicky stuff out there, but for the most part it will change your eating habits. And by that I mean you'll eat less overall. I've lost 6 pounds since I started this. I'd recommend trying to eat this way for a few months to see what happens.

Losing weight has nothing to do with organic. You would have still lost weight if you had eaten the same stuff but not organic. What matters is that you are cooking from scratch and not eating shit.

See 5th post here to see the benefits you are getting.

BTW, how did you lose 6 pounds in 8 days? We're just stuffing yourself with burgers and pizza everyday before you went organic?

^ I always wondered about those. Of course it is BS, but since they advertise them turning a brown color, do they actually turn brown? If so, is it something in the pad that turns brown upon contact with moisture overnight? I mean, they are easily available, so it can't be hard to test. So if they didnt turn brown, I could get my money back, right?

no, it's literally not a regulated term so it doesn't mean anything.

gusher fruit snacks can be all natural. healthy things can be all natural. don't make any assumptions from it good or bad.

if you eat junk food now and switch to organic junk food, the only weight you'll lose is in your wallet.

If you eat more lean protein and veggies, and reduce sugar/starch, you'll burn fat, and it doesn't matter if it's organic or not.

What you get by buying organic is subscribing to the elitist lifestyle message they promote. The vast majority of the purported benefits of organic foods are nothing more than attempts in scaring people into expensive food choices.

On one hand, I'm down with the notion of organic foods as a tax on people who fall into the naturalistic fallacy trap. But on the other hand, it trickles down to middle class and economically challenged families that forego other opportunities because they feed their families boutique produce and boutique processed foods out of fear.

i hope you don't think that organic means "toxin and fertilizer free". because organic foods get as much or more of those things than conventional/GMO plants.

organic foods still use pesticides and all that shit. most times there's literally no difference in the quality of the food you're just paying more for it. have fun with that.

GMO's aren't harmful at all. in fact good luck finding food that has never been genetically modified ever as we've been doing it since the beginning of agriculture.

as someone who works in the poultry/meat industry, anyone who eats meat that was never given antibiotics is a fucking moron the nth degree. you couldn't pay me to eat antibiotic free meat. especially poultry.

the group that released the dirty dozen list (environmental working group) has it's issues, but I think that list is from USDA sampling results.

^the pesticide residues are from USDA sampling. the pesticide residues that were measured were also extremely low and way below the chronic reference doses.

Quote :
"They compared the amount of pesticides on each of the Dirty Dozen foods to the chronic reference dose, which is the maximum amount that it's okay to have if you are eating that food every day of your life. This level, just to be safe, is one hundred times less than the amount that experimental animals were able to consume with no effects. It's a pretty big safety margin. So how many of the Dirty Dozen exceeded this extremely conservative chronic reference dose? None:

All pesticide exposure estimates were well below established chronic reference doses (RfDs). Only one of the 120 exposure estimates exceeded 1% of the RfD (methamidophos on bell peppers at 2% of the RfD), and only seven exposure estimates (5.8 percent) exceeded 0.1% of the RfD. Three quarters of the pesticide/commodity combinations demonstrated exposure estimates below 0.01% of the RfD (corresponding to exposures one million times below chronic No Observable Adverse Effect Levels from animal toxicology studies), and 40.8% had exposure estimates below 0.001% of the RfD."

^ it adds up, it is cumulative. you eat throughout your life, and while at any given time you are ingesting a small quantity, over your life they could add up to a dangerous amount.

But still, I would rather not have those chemicals in my body if I can help it, of course, at a reasonable price.
