I have heard that you have to pay a small fee or buy some sort of special permit in addition to inland fishing license to fish there, is this true? I can't find any info on this.

Honestly I'd just go. There's nothing online about fees or permits, and unless you see signage at the lake that says otherwise I don't think there's much they'd do about it. Just be polite and explain you tried to find info on fishing there and came up empty handed.

If you're really concerned you can swing by the NC Wildlife Resource Commission building and see if they know anything. Their main building is on Centennial off Varsity Dr, right inside the entrance from Avent Ferry.

I know I went to Apex Community Park and you have to buy a permit from the Town of Apex for $25 to fish there. I was like WTF. But unlike my search for info on Lake Raleigh I found info online about the $25 fee for the permit. I guess I'll just have to show up and see what happens.

Haven't been there in years, but have been since the additions. Didn't have to pay anything then.

Found out that there is no additional fee. What that person was talking about is a parking fee that only applies from 8am-6pm (I believe) M-F. So I'm good,

Last time I went to lake wheeler (years ago), they said they had a similar policy. I say f that, just play dumb if they try to make you pay.
