Do people actually take cold showers on purpose? Or is it some euphemism? The only ones I've taken were out of necessity (ie no hot water) and they were pretty miserable. Are there people who do this intentionally? 8/13/2015 7:07:55 PM

If I've been sweating my balls off in the summer heat/humidity then I typically will start it out lukewarm and end up with the handle all the way cold by the end of the shower. 8/13/2015 7:40:56 PM

This is me after a run. Probably won't do it when it gets cooler, but right now, when it is still 85 at 9 PM, this is how I cool down. 8/13/2015 7:48:02 PM

I'll take a cool shower when it's hot, and I have just finished exercising. And in high school, after track meets, I've had to take ice baths. Also felt good to take cold showers then too. 8/13/2015 10:06:18 PM

but seriously you might have some body odor issues if your furniture stinks just from sitting (clothed) on it for a few minutes after working out 8/14/2015 1:56:07 AM

I've been trying to take cold showers lately. There's a decent amount of science to support some benefits
Reduce Stress http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/0891584994900302
weight loss http://www.wired.com/2013/02/ff-cold-weight-loss/
And faster recovery from workouts, increased testosterone, and better sleep, but i don't have the time to find the attributions right now.

Also, if you live in NC and your house/apartment building doesn't have an actual water cooling system then in the summer it's pretty much impossible to take a cold shower. I've tried for years in multiple locations.
The water is just too warm. I'd be shocked if most people's water around here in the summer is below 70°F 8/14/2015 9:49:42 AM

For about a month, I would take really hot showers and then finish with it set to cold. I'm a zombie in the morning, so it helps to wake me up before getting to work and having some coffee. It's definitely invigorating. 8/14/2015 9:56:01 AM

True...but that water can feel cold when just got done with a run in 90+ degree heat. 8/14/2015 10:08:52 AM

Sure, it'll feel "cold" for about 5-10 seconds, after which time you'll be longing for something colder. Just because there's that temperature differential, doesn't mean it's cold water. That'd be like calling an outdoor pool with 50 degree water a hot tub in the winter time, when the ambient temp is 30°. Temp differential is there, but it's not hot ![](images/wink.gif) 8/14/2015 11:14:13 AM
