yeah, killer musician.

he's a motherfucking nazi about even having his music on youtube, though. fuck, there was a good video of the making of purple rain...i never knew that the whole thing was done live in concert, with some cuts and studio punch-ins and layering later (but really not that much). i thought it was really interesting, and then it disappeared from youtube (and my Facebook post sharing it got completely deleted, too).

I understand wanting to get paid for your work, but being a total cock makes me not want to do business with you at all.

[Edited on September 7, 2015 at 11:46 PM. Reason : shit i don't even think that recording was released on any album, anyway.]

^^^ Not on any album? IT'S THE TITLE TRACK OF HIS MOST FAMOUS ALBUM. You just said you didn't know it was recorded live until you watched the video...the video where captions go into detail about where the edits are made to comprise the album version.

This came on the 80s XM channel the other week (guess it was one of the top songs of whatever year/week they were doing). Hadn't heard it in like 15 years.

^^ no, of course i'm familiar with Purple Rain. Shit, I have a vinyl copy of it. I'm saying I never knew that so much of it was recorded live in concert.

I am not aware if the original live version in the video with the captions was featured on any album, in its original form (obviously not the produced version that we all know).

^^ The recording on the video is the recording on the album. That's the point of the video.

It is not exactly the recording on the album; all the captions detail when the concert recording has been cut, when it returns to what you hear on the album, spots where punch-ins were made or additional tracks were layered, etc.

It is a fairly complete "base stock" for the album version...amazingly so...but the recording on the video is not the recording on the album.
