I guess we have all heard the narrative about policemen being killed in the line of duty. I wonder why this is never examined through the lens of 'workplace violence' or 'job hazards'? I would be interested to know how the percentage of policemen killed each year compares to deaths while on the job in other professions?

Not at my office, but one close by in the same company..... we have had several shootings, and one guy drove his car into the front lobby several years back.

Then, there are extreme examples like those artic water crab fisherman.... those crazy motherfuckers all probably die like twice a day.

Construction workers die often in NYC. It's terrifying.

We actually run drills on live shooter situations. The police department and fire department participates as well and they have somebody going around as if they're a shooter. We also have metal detectors (if you don't have an active badge) and armed guards, and retractable blades in the road at several points on our campus. The Federal government takes that shit very seriously. Apparently it's happened in the past here but I don't think anyone was hurt.

^Can confirm the federal government takes it seriously. Have active shooter drills here all the time, although considering we are on an Army base (you can literally hear soldiers only a few miles away at the shooting range), you'd have to be an idiot to try anything like that here. Although anyone trying to shoot up a work place obviously isn't of sound mind anyway.

We're in an era of record low cop deaths, but record high police killings of civilians (maybe they're correlated??).

Cops also don't even have a top-10 dangerous job, IIRC...?

I'm going to pretend it's the 90s and post without googling any of this.

No fucking shit, google still exists. Doing research on my smartphone for this isnt really a strong desire of mine though. Nor is defining other high risk professions of which to compare. Lastly, googling something instead of making a thread doesnt exactly stimulate discussion on a goddamn messageboard.

Yeah this is a problem and it is out of control. The problem is that the real issue of police brutality and the need to tone down the aggression in law enforcement that affects all citizens keeps getting washed out by the #BLM who claim the the mean police don't like them for being black.

but in reality it really does disproportionately impact people of color, and their movement will probably improve things for everyone, so why does this make you so upset?

The premise is #BlackLivesMatter creates barriers and unnecessarily divides the issue on racial grounds. By creating a more inclusive group/theme (i.e. #StopPoliceBrutality #AllLivesMatter) the group would likely gain support for a much greater proportion of the population that identifies with many of the issues (police abuse of power, brutality, aggression by law enforcement) that BLM is trying to gain attention too.

Even if organizers truly only care about Black Lives (which i don't think actually is the case for most), by creating this more inclusive group without inserting the racial component; they would more likely achieve their aims. Politicians do this all the time. Just look at all the GOP nominee dip-shits that made a big deal about Kim Davis when i'm sure they do not care that much about the issue.

I for one do think that their is a police brutality issue in this country.

I agree, it's an issue for all races. And it's even more of an issue for minorities. It's a fact that you seem too retarded to comprehend.

BLM only creates problems if you're too thick and/or stupid to understand the implicit 'too' at the end of it.
