What, precisely, do they think the options are? No one will go downtown if they drive the nightlife out of there.

This picture leads me to believe there is insufficient seating on sidewalks. Sucks you have to lean on polls

I like to browse overpriced art studios and shop for handbags and designer women's clothing at 2am, but all these places are only open 8 to 5 M-F.

Good god. To call this short-sighted idiocy would be an understatement. I always thought the antagonist from 80s/90s teen movies were too tight-assed to be real people, but this just stinks of a Mr. Rooney level killjoy.

Where we these people when all the initiatives to bring business downtown was going on? After all, if they had spoken up when we opened Fayetteville St. or built a big ass convention center then maybe now they wouldn't have to deal with the fallout of people going out to have a good time.

Maybe they should start targeting all the businesses that are driving people downtown. They need to start campaigns against Redhat, Duke Energy, RBC, Highwoods, etc. and tell them to take all these fucking jobs and money somewhere else....Downtown was doing just fine back in the day when there were 2 good restaurants and plenty of empty benches for the homeless to sleep on. Our vacancy rate was fantastically high and provided dirt cheap space for musty second hand shops and discount stores.

To be fair, downtown Raleigh is DrunkTown, and has been for a very long time. Most of them are dressed like that as well.

We should close the bars at 11:30 during the week. Just as my grandma said nothing good happens after midnight.

A proper classy southerner should have spent the evening at bible study and they should be in bed by midnight to ensure they can super productive a the factory the next morning!

oh nvm I thought she was the chick supporting the ads.

So I'm guessing the creator of this ad thinks Raleigh needs more churches downtown?

Right now in Charlotte I've heard they have been doing a good job of tearing down a lot of the popular watering holes to replace them with luxury apartments offering 0-cultural value.

So long Philsopher's, Jack's, Common Market, thirsty beaver

GET THE HELL OUT THERE AND VOTE, PEOPLE.

This ad is targeting the pearl clutching crowd, the majority of whom do not even live downtown but for some reason feel compelled to try to bring us back to the tumbleweed filled "mall" that Fayetteville Street was when I moved here in 1998.

The city tried to solve a minor issue (parts were getting a bit nutty, couldn't get past) with a sledge hammer, and we need to push back. I have many friends in the service business (not just the ones I'm involved with) and their numbers are hurting from this.

The radio ad is even dumber, btw:

I'd call it west Raleigh, but the important part is that it's OTB and nowhere near downtown.

Seriously, what's wrong with designating if a location is inside or outside the belt line? Is it too hipster to abbreviate it? Should it always be spelled-out?
