Every so often I tune into Conservative talk radio to hear from the other side and to get laughs at the gloom-and-doom of all the talk show "reporters" claiming our country is on verge of collapse.

I've noticed that nearly every commercial break there is a commercial for buying gold, silver coins, etc. Do hardcore conservatives hoard bullion in their prepper bunkers or something? Clearly the ads are geared toward your blue-collar probably not-so intelligent conservatives versus the elitists big-business executive type of conservative.

I have a coworker who is one of these people.

Started out he was buying gold and silver for the good investment against hyper inflation.
When the losses started mounting he was "dollar cost averaging".
Then it was "for me it isn't so much about the investment but about being having currency for when TSHTF"
We explained how he'd be better off with guns, ammo, and MREs if that happened to which he replied "got that too"

I'm guessing he is probably sitting on anywhere from a 10-20k loss.
