Skylight Inn in Ayden is pretty good, she could also go a little out of the way on the drive home (assuming you're in Raleigh) and hit Wilber's in Goldsboro. But if I could only choose one tray of BBQ to have the rest of my days...it would be B's...

B's...Wilbur's is too far compared to the legend that it used to carry.

There will be a new one opening up soon, a whole hog retaurant with open pit, but not sure when that'll be.

There is no good barbecue east of Greensboro.

Lexington style FTW

Parker's is on 301, a mile off of 264 on the way home.

Moore's Old Tyme BBQ In New Bern is pretty good and there is a Moore's that just opened up in Winterville but I'm not sure if it's affiliated.

Sam Jones BBQ is going to be opening soon in Greenville hopefully. He's the son of aforementioned Pete Jones / Skylight Inn in Ayden.

Wilbur's in Goldsboro comes up a lot

Parkers in Wilson

A lot of people don't care for Greenville Parkers but it's pretty good imo. I was actually a little disappointed in B's. The BBQ didn't blow me away by any means but it was good. I took about 5 years to finally try it and the chicken was incredibly dry I would be hard pressed to try it again. It's just so inconvenient so unless someone is going already I'm never going to make that journey to stand in line.

Parkers is super overrated. In my opinion, if you're not cooking with wood you're making substandard BBQ.

I have never been to Parker's in Wilson, not saying there isn't one. I am saying on the other hand that there is in fact 2 Parker's in Greenville.

which in fact you did not.

OK. i wasn't saying there weren't any in greenville (although i didn't realize there were), but I knew there was one in Wilson. Odd that the Wilson location isn't listed on their website, is it the same Parker's?

I asked on their facebook page if they were affiliated with the ones in greenville...

Quote :
"Parker's Barbecue Wilson Were the original Parker's Since 1946 and we are not affiliated with parker's in greenville they opened in 1971 by a family member"

You're all bickering about where Parker's is and isn't. Parker's is dog food compared to B's. This question was answered in the first response. Now, get to B's and stuff you face.

I "get" the hate for Greenville Parkers, it's pretty average (at best), but it's still generally a stop for me on the way through Greenville. It's cheap, decent, has that ENC ambiance and people watching, the tea is syrupy , and the corn sticks are the icing on the cake (def get corns sticks over hush puppies IMO, getting both is the best option).

If you are a BBQ aficionado or foodie, then def look elsewhere. If you just want some ENC Q or some good Instagram photos, then I think Parkers fits the bill.

The bbq at Greenville Parkers has nasty bits.

B's is better, but Skylight is the best.

Bbq grosses me out for the most part, so if I say it's good, then it is.

B's is pretty good, but Bum's in Ayden is where it's at. No one seems to know about the place, but it's always on fucking point.

Great.

The thing about BBQ restaurants is, look, I love BBQ as much as the next guy, but I want some variety too. A lot of places only have some shitty coleslaw. I want some real goddamn sides. Bum's fucking delivers.

Cabbage
Collards
Rutabaga
Sweet Potato
Mashed Potato
Brunswick Stew
HAM

Also, they have a sweet potato muffin AND banana pudding that will blow your goddamn mind.

While I'm usually all aboard the fuck coleslaw train, I had some at Wilber's today that was very good.

But yah a lot of the old-school BBQ spots have far too traditional sides for my taste...and their stew is usually lacking flavor for me too, Wilber's and Cooper's included there.

Old Hickory House (western BBQ) had the best stew. But they closed down

So what's your second place?

I will say my stew has a shitload of tomato/ketchup based BBQ sauce in it, so I suppose I won't be too happy eating stew lacking those flavors...most are lacking flavor in general.

[Edited on October 18, 2015 at 11:20 PM. Reason : The best have lots of pork/flavor.]
