A friend's friend posted on FB that he makes decent pocket money on Tsu. Didn't say how much.
The premise is that it is like most other social networks but 90% of the revenue from the ads is given back to the users. And it is invite-only.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsu_(social_network)
Quote : | "Like Facebook, after registering to use the site, users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, exchange messages, post status updates and photos, and receive notifications when others update their profiles.[4] Tsu differentiates itself from competitors by allowing its users to maintain ownership of the content they post.[5]" |
Quote : | "Tsu has been compared extensively to Ello, a contemporary social network that rejects selling user data as a product; Tsu's approach is to instead embrace the user as a product, and to sell data to advertisers and share the profits with the users as compensation[7] This approach appears to give the service some of the characteristics of a Multi Level Marketing strategy." |
This is a good read:
http://www.zdnet.com/article/is-facebook-afraid-of-social-network-rival-tsu Is Facebook afraid of social network rival Tsu?
Quote : | "Tsu has 4.2 million users, while Facebook has over 1.4 billion. Yet the social networking Goliath has apparently stopped allowing Tsu users to post items to Facebook and has removed all historical posts and links referring to the site." |
Counterpoint: Don't send me your tsu.co link. Here is my review: is it a scam, or a money machine for you? http://ayesh.me/no-tsu.co
I had never heard of Ello, so I looked it up.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ello_(social_network)
Quote : | "The Ello service claims several notable distinguishing intentions as a social network:[1][3][4] * never sell user data to advertisers or third parties * never show advertisements * not enforce a real-name policy" |
Quote : | "Ello gained added attention in September 2014, when numerous members of the LGBTQ community left Facebook following the controversial enforcement of its real-name policy, thought to be intended to exclude drag queens in San Francisco.[3][10][4] At its peak, the social network was processing more than 30,000 signup requests an hour.[3][11] It is estimated that 20% of sign ups remain active on the site one week after registration.[12]" |
Quote : | "One highly positive review expressed concern that Ello "seems fated to become the betamax of social media: superior to its competitor but failing to win popular traction. But it doesn't matter ... A social network doesn’t need approval from everyone to work."[19]" |
So how does Ello make money if they don't show ads or sell user data?
P.S. Here is a Tsu profile... looks like FB: http://www.tsu.co/BWDaugherty
