Doesn't matter to the time as long as Familia can continue to produce saves at the level he did last year. 2/12/2016 7:13:13 PM |

Cespedes needs to cool it. Apparently he's been showing up every day with a different car, one time rode in on a horse, today bought a 270-pound pig at a county fair.
It's hilarious, but also over the top and I don't want his crazy spending to become a distraction. 3/1/2016 6:00:37 PM |

Tejada dropped, picked up by St. Louis. We didn't need 3 starting shortstops so it makes sense, but sad to see him go. Cabrera should be ready to start opening day.
DeGrom, Harvey, and Syndergaard are all looking great. All three have a chance at 20 wins if the offense can carry the spirit of last August into this season. Adding Cabrera and Walker should be an upgrade from Tejada and Murphy (offensively AND defensively), plus a full season from Cespedes.
Last year's OF by games played: Granderson (143) Lagares (106) Cuddyer (87) Cespedes (53) Conforto (48) John Mayberry Jr (23) Nieuwenhuis (21)
With Granderson likely to get at least 140 starts and Cespedes at least 150, Lagares and Conforto will cover most of the rest with an occasional sighting of Alejandro de Aza. This is going to be a much better team from day 1. Also, excited to possibly see Brandon Nimmo late in the season. 3/19/2016 4:36:20 PM |

Opening Day Lineup:
Granderson - RF Wright - 3B Cespedes - LF Duda - 1B Walker - 2B Conforto - DH Cabrera - SS d'Arnaud - C Lagares - CF
Super pumped. Disappointed with the opening day uniform selection though (silver letters with orange trim...never liked it). 4/3/2016 8:00:38 PM |

Well, he is a below average fielder, and it's almost all due to effort and concentration. He's got a million dollar arm and a ten cent brain. You guys shouldn't have paid him. 4/3/2016 8:54:31 PM |

I guess you could say that about this season with the way the contract is structured, but 75 million over 3 is a lot for a 30 year old guy.
He can be a game changer on offense. Opinion was kind of split on bringing him back wasn't it? 4/3/2016 9:19:45 PM |
bdmazur ?? ????? ?? 14957 Posts user info edit post |
Opinion was split about how long of a contract he could get without it being a risk. But to lock him in for just 3 years when he just had a gold glove and MVP-caliber season? Worth it. 4/3/2016 9:45:21 PM |

I love how hard this team played in those last 2 innings. Cespedes should have made the catch to start the game, and Conforto should have taken third on his big hit. If those two things happened, this is a 4-3 Mets win.
Of course coulda/woulda/shoulda means nothing, but this team played a great game and I feel fantastic about the season to come. 4/3/2016 11:58:15 PM |

This shitty scheduling to open the season was not good for such a young starter like Matz. Worst start of his life to kick off his season. 10 days between starts is just crazy, even with the transition from spring training into the regular season. But what can you do when your team has 3 days off in one week? 4/11/2016 8:00:27 PM |

They throw on the side to stay loose. Poor excuse. The Marlins lineup is no joke, though. Matz will be fine.

Neil Walker is in beast mode. He's better than Murphy in every way except batting average. Compare the core 3-6 hitters of each team and it's surprising just how good this Met's lineup is after the slow first week start.
Harper -21 hits, 15 runs, 9 HR, 24 RBI Zimmerman -15 hits, 10 runs, 1 HR, 7 RBI Murphy: 27 hits, 10 runs, 2 HR, 9 RBI Werth: 11 hits, 8 runs, 3 HR, 8 RBI --------------------------------- Conforto: 22 hits, 11 runs, 3 HR, 13 RBI Cespedes: 18 hits, 12 runs, 6 HR, 17 RBI Duda: 18 hits, 10 runs, 4 HR, 14 RBI Walker: 24 hits, 12 runs, 9 HR, 16 RBI
Nats Total: 74 hits, 43 runs, 15 HR, 48 RBI Mets Total: 82 hits, 45 runs, 22 HR, 60 RBI
And that's with Cespedes missing 4 games.

David Wright has reinvented his swing to work with his back issues, and he's hitting as good as ever. He isn't consistently getting the distance he did 10 years ago, but he's still making hard contact. Conforto and Wright are both in the top 3 of all MLB players in percentage of hard-hit balls. 5/3/2016 4:05:40 PM |

Mets usually keep Harper at bay (.265 average against Mets vs .286 against everyone else). They aren't afraid to go after him (*cough cough Cubs*)
Disappointing stretch though, 7-11 record in May so far after going 15-7 in April. 5/20/2016 3:14:41 PM |

I reassert my earlier statement that the Mets still have a below average defense, the outfield is bad. Buster agrees with me.

Still like the Mets to make the playoffs pretty easily. No way the Phillies keep up this pace. Should be a very competitive season with Cubs, Nats, and Mets a step ahead of the rest of the NL. 5/20/2016 5:38:11 PM |

I wonder how much of the team-wide pitching slump (Syndergaard aside) can be attributed to having a rookie catcher calling pitches. He doesn't know these starters as well as d'Arnaud and hasn't built up trust as their catcher. Or just inconsistency of who is catching in general. .615 with d'Arnaud behind the plate, .519 without him.
Matz did pretty well Friday, but Harvey, deGrom, and Colon are all under-performing. Colon is notorious for not walking batters but he gave 5 free passes without getting out of the 5th inning on Thursday. Before that he had only given up four walks in 7 starts this season. (Still, 40 k to 9 BB is a fantastic ratio)
Colon (#8), Matz (#4), and Syndergaard (#2) are all top-10 in k:bb ratio.

I haven't watched that many games recently from beginning to end but I am so glad I did today. That was an amazing display of never giving up, and so great to see David Wright delivering the walk-off hit. Had it not been the end of the game, that would have been a 3-RBI double. I was thinking in my head he should swing at a 3-0 pitch, but the pitch looked like it was going to be ball 4 anyway. 5/21/2016 7:32:34 PM |

Syndergaard with 2 straight starts of 10+ strikeouts, 0 walks, and 0 earned runs. He now has 76 strikeouts to 9 walks. Also, 0.98 WHIP and 1.94 ERA. All-Star and Cy Young contender for sure.
Kershaw is the only pitcher with a better K:BB ratio (88:4). 5/22/2016 5:58:28 PM |

I hope they don't overuse him. He's probably the most physical of their young pitchers but he hasn't really gone through the whole grind of a season yet. Need to be careful running him past 6 innings on a regular basis.
Also, what do you guys think of Harvey? I just preferred a buy low trade for him. I've never been a big fan, I don't think he takes care of himself and I worry about his ability to finish a season, but if he gets his shit together can he still be a dominant starter? 5/22/2016 6:11:05 PM |

we made it to the WS last year so obviously we handled the deadline right, but i was in favor of trying to trade Harvey around the deadline last year. i figured that Harvey was gonna command a bigger salary than the rest of our young staff, was older, but still had a ton of trade value for a bat.
at this point, i really don't know about harvey. i think he definitely is capable of turning it around. but it's been pretty frustrating. 5/22/2016 6:18:34 PM |
