I had heard he had some health issues, but It didn't sound like anything too serious.

As a kid I LOVED the Eagles for 5 years or so. But like every other classic rock band, Rock 92.3 and 99.7 played them to death... made me hate them.

I watch the History of the Eagles a few months ago, and Frey came across as a total fucking prick. So I really can't say I'm too sad.

Fuck him.

He's no Bowie.

Yea, Frey definitely was full of himself, he reminds me of John Fogerty. But can you blame him? I mean his band has sold more records than any other band.

That's not even close to true.

In terms of certified sales, the following bands have more sales than Eagles: Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd, AC/DC, Queen, Stones, & ABBA.

Even Taylor Swift has sold more records than Eagles.

if you paste his claims together (as I think he intended) then it's true

Quote :
""Eagles: Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975" still holds the record as bestselling album of the 20th century by a group."

oh wait, this is the 21st century and it's been going on for 16 years. but according to Wikipedia, the claim still holds, if you go by music recording sales certification, whatever the fuck that may be.

^Eagles Greatest Hits was the number one selling album in the USA in the 20th Century. Michael Jackson sold more of his album Thriller if you count world wide sales. I'm pretty sure there were multiple other albums that outsold it in the 20th century too when counting world sales.

Lol at your claim to fame being your Greatest Hits album sales, as opposed to your best actual album.

yeah, aside from thriller pulling away from eagles greatest hits in sales over the years, a greatest hits record isn't really an album

there are eight bonafide no shit hits on eagles greatest hits 71-75

there are seven bonafide no shit hits JUST ON THRILLER

I haven't met many people that really like the eagles. Sure, maybe a few songs, but not as a whole.

I hear what you people are saying about a "Great Hits" record not being a legit album. And I agree, it's kind of cheating.

But still, everybody else's Greatest Hits albums (including Michael Jackson's) were also allowed to participate in this competition, and the Eagles' Greatest Hits came out on top. In this sense, it's not cheating at all - it's a route that was available to all artists.

What I find kinda surprising is that there aren't more Greatest Hits among the all-time top-selling albums. I wonder what made the the Eagles' one so successful. Maybe they just marketed the shit out of it. Shrug.

Thriller has still sold more copies than Eagles Greatest Hits 71-75.

The reason the Eagles record sold so well is that it is indeed jammed with hits. Even a reasonably popular band's greatest hits comp might have 5-6 legit hit singles amongst its 10-12 tracks. The Eagles' first hits comp has 10 tracks, and 8 of them are songs that the average music fan will recognize instantly.
