i get that they're cracking down on speeding...but just the way it's worded is kinda weird. like - of course the speed limit is the speed limit.

Do they throw the cases out? Or just reduce them to Improper equipment? in the latter you are still out $200+ in court fees minimum. The state has systematically underfunded the state court system for the past 6 years (thanks GOP!) and if you are a judge choosing between hearing a bunch of extra cases and actually cutting your colleague the bailiff a paycheck which are you gonna choose?

I'm more interested in the variance of speedometers across all manufacturers. If there's a 1-3 mph variance between a Honda and Ford, does the cop know this? And does the cop take this into affect? Nope. they just see what's on their radar. I'm pretty sure my speedometer isn't exact.

I demand car manufacturers give me 5 significant digits in my digital speedometer.

kinda reinforces what i was thinking yesterday. the "1-9 over" line in the original stories was overplayed a bit. what else do you expect the DOT and highway patrol to say? they're basically just targeting people speeding and and will be out in full force doing so. but i don't get the impression that they will specifically be cracking on down on people going 4 mph over, or whatever the case may be. in fact, this is from the WRAL article that was linked in another thread

Not sure why you'd want to do that, as the penalty for going 9 over is basically a slap on the wrist. going 20 over, especially if the speed limit is 65-70, could land you in serious trouble.
