Listen to me now: Anyone who belongs to any minority, no matter how you want to define that minority--skin colors, political affiliations, soda preferences--is going to wind up being marginalized by the sheer volume of majority voices. Majorities tend to dictate whose attention goes where. Do you understand this basic idea? If most of us drive to work, most of our discussion about roads and vehicles will be automobile-centric and will be had by automobile drivers, and fuck the bicyclists for the most part.

You know why you think "we" didn't have "cases" of "this crap" 100 years ago? Because 100 years ago, most people could not easily reach a wide audience outside of their small geographical areas. Those who had access like that, like authors or journalists or politicians, had every incentive to cater to--you guessed it--majority audiences.

There have always been people who did not feel comfortable as a man or woman or even as people in general. The only thing that has changed is that we live in an era where it's easier for these people to make themselves heard and harder for you to live in your stupid little bubble.
