Wtf? In general I don't like Chinese people, so no, I am not going to kill myself just because some random Chinese person died, especially one who simply changed one letter in "China" and used it as a nickname for themselves.

Man, that's disgusting. I was all ready to damn her to hell and what not, but then I read about her personal life on Wikipedia, and it is so sad. May the Lord have mercy on her.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chyna

I must say, though, I find it really funny how they talk about her wrestling career, mentioning things like she beat this guy, that guy, was the first woman to win so and so championship, aligned with so and so, etc., as if it is a real sport and isn't staged.

**************************************************

And no, I don't find her attractive at all, face or body. Haven't seen her picture for several years, until now. Michelle Lewin, Emily Skye, Sophie Guidolin, and Rebecca Burger on the other hand, they are great.

I like how OEPII1 transitioned from making an ignorant statement, to 'reverse trolling' us all, to actually researching who Chyna was and actually making a somewhat informed post.

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of the art of professional wrestling. Beating a man in a real fight is an impressive feat, but not unfathomable for someone of her size and strength. Winning a championship in WWE, however, requires the faith and support of a BILLION dollar corporation.

In an era where the small amount of women's wrestling in WWE consisted mostly of bra & panties matches, and in a company where size was often valued over talent, Chyna entered the Royal Rumble and was the Intercontinental Champion. The fact that the company had that support for her in that climate is incredibly impressive.

Not sure what's American about that logic, or where I suggested it's different than artistic patronage. Just pointing out the distinction between sports and theater.

Athletes are positioned for success, but in equal measure to their opponents (generally speaking), at which point the results on the field/in the ring are left up to the performers themselves.

A champion in WWE is chosen by a booking committee, and ultimately approved by Vince McMahon himself. You don't become a champion by being the toughest, strongest, or best wrestler, you do it by showing the company you can draw money, which on many levels is more difficult than just being the best at a sport.

Except that wrestlers are real people who really damage their bodies for the benefit of entertaining audiences in a Shakespearean mode...and Pokemon are cartoons.

^ By that tack, all forms of entertainment with clear protagonists and antagonists are formula. A twist in a movie and a swerve in a wrestling match are the same thing.

Have you watched any of the major (or large indie, like EVOLVE) wrestling promotions in a while? The quality of the work is much higher than it used to be, not to mention the production value. There were a lot of truly terrible matches in the Attitude Era, and most of that is gone. On a three hour Raw, there will be matches that are hard to get excited about, but usually not many that are actively bad.

The other end of that is when the work is really transcendent: I was at the NXT show in Brooklyn, and at the end of the Bayley/Sasha Banks match, people were weeping in the aisles. When wrestling works, it's as good as any drama you can name.

1) No I haven't. One time I watched one of those barbed wire cage matches when my friend gave a dude who was on acid at the time a machete and said "Defend yourself". He stared at the machete in his hand for 10 seconds, then told us about a person who died decades earlier in the house we were in (later verified by the house owner) and demanded that we call the cops. I've seen at most 25-30 minutes of wrestling in my entire life, so you probably shouldn't take what I say so seriously. Or maybe I shouldn't post

2) You think I'm shitting on Wrestling, but really I just think Pokemon is dope and just like you I wish it was real

I don't wish wrestling was real. Then it'd be UFC, and the opportunities for dynamic storytelling would fewer. Hell, as it is I wish my favorite wrestlers wouldn't do such insane shit, as too many have had to retire in their 30s or miss huge chunks of their careers due to traumatic injuries.

This says it all... it is just acting and showmanship, but with the added twist of winning roles competitively by convincing the "committees".

Pure non-sport.

You are wrong on so many accounts.

1) That's not my username.
2) I made no ignorant statement, and the "reverse trolling" was in my very first post; no transition.
3) I know who she was, most young people in the US know, doesn't mean they know her early life history.
