TR did a lot of good stuff but there's a LOT of bad that gets glossed over with him because he's every 9 year old's favorite president. Even as a libertarian I can appreciate things like the national park service, some of his monopolly busting, and other good policy decisions, but he was an unrepentent Imperialist who realized the horror of war only after his son was killed.

It was before his presidency, but he was a large part of why we had the spanish-american war, the "insurrection" and near genocide in the Philippines, and he wanted us in WWI from the jump.

All in all, interesting human being, pretty good as a president, but maybe not really an admirable man in total.

Well, probably none, but that's not really what I meant or even what I said, at least I don't think. My point was that TR gets lionized despite having a ton of flaws. But since he had such a cool back story he gets a pass when he probably shouldnt.

That was a good thing, but "The Great Society" policies aren't so great. There is a lot of fraud and abuse. The same with FDR. His policies have cost the tax payers a lot of money and some economist even argue his policies extended the great depression.

TR was going to the stage to give a speech in 1912 and got shot. The bullet hit his glasses case, went through a folded up 50 page copy of his speech. His doc said he should go to the hospital, but since he wasn't coughing up blood he ignored him and gave the speech.

He spoke for 90 minutes.

He died 7 years later with the bullet still in his chest.
