either snacking or full on bowl of cereal?

it came up this morning with a coworker, i thought it was funny he was eating a bowl of cereal and he thought it was strange that i haven't had a bowl of cereal probably since high school. (he doesn't have kids, i can imagine that some people may eat cereal again if their kids are)

I usually eat a bowl of Quaker Granola on the weekends. Too often I skip lunch so I find that'll tide me over until dinner.

This morning. I have cereal for breakfast every work day. Although it isn't sugary cereal, it is boring adult whole grain wheat shit. Doesn't taste amazing but it is healthy and fast.

I'm with EMCE usually, but the other week the wife was out of town and Quaker Granola + unsweetened almond milk was easier than fixing dinner a few nights.

^I usually make refrigerator oatmeal overnight, so I can just grab and go in the morning. It's great and you can control the amount of sugar.

i go through phases where i'll eat it quite regularly and crave it - and then won't buy any or want any for a few months.

Froot Loops are part of a balanced diet. You've got your serving of fruit, protein (from the toucan) and milk.

Probably twice a week. I don't think I ate cereal for a couple years, but visited the in-laws a few years back and had a tasty/healthy bowl and got back into it. I try and eat light/healthy for breakfast...and the right kind of cereal can accomplish that for you.

My office has honey bunches of oats, Special K and various oatmeals which I'll grab one of.

Either that or an egg sandwich from a corner store.

what does everyone eat normally?

I would get tired of eating the same shit for breakfast everyday...just as I would get tired of eating the same shit for lunch or dinner. So I rotate.

Here are a list of items that are in my breakfast rotation:

- Apples
- Bananas
- Toast
- English Muffins
- Cereal (usually a combo of Grape Nuts w/ Honey Bunches of Oats or Special K...every now and then, HN Cheerios)
- Granola and Yogurt
- Balance Bar
- Hard Boiled Eggs
- Muffins

I don't see how the cereal thing is "fascinating".

That's like cracking on someone for eating a real sandwich by attributing all sandwiches to PB&J's that kids eat.

There are kids cereals and adult cereals.

I would have kicked you in the nuts if you tried to make me eat Grape Nuts when I was 8 years old. And you won't see me eating Lucky Charms as a 33-year old either.

^^^right, but i thought that was mostly for people with kids. my parents never ate cereal, i don't know how my wife's family was growing up but she doesn't eat cereal. i've never seen any of my extended family eat cereal except for nieces/nephews. i don't remember adults eating cereal in movies/tv (but maybe i just didn't notice). I just didn't know it was a thing.

i thought even cereal for kids was on the decline with everyone knowing more about healthy eating today (cutting out sugar and milk)

I'm not..making an analogy.

I ate Grape Nuts as a kid because that's all my grandmother had (that and Cracklin Oat Bran...which turned to mush if it was just sitting next to a gallon of Milk). I also put about a half a cup of sugar on my Grape Nuts as a kid. Even today I have to put it with a cereal that actually has flavor. Grape Nuts is actually wood colored rock pebbles that have been softened enough to where they can be eaten.

where the fuck did dtownral grow up? Was his childhood based on Silver Spoons?

Most of t-dub didn't have nannies and personal chefs.

My mom would make some cheese or cinnamon toast every now and then...and of course pancakes, cinnamon rolls, and other "extravagant" stuff on the weekend. But cereal is cheap, quick, and easy. That's why 95% of kids grew up eating that shit.

haha, that's all my grandparents had too.

I almost lived on cereal as a kid, I'd have it for breakfast, I'd have it as a snack when I got home from school, and I'd have it for a night snack since we ate dinner at 5:30. It was usually the healthier stuff, mom rarely bought the sugary stuff. I remember it was a treat to get Count Chocula at my cousin's house.

I ate it fairly frequently in college. Now I may buy a few times a year. I still like it, but for whatever reason I usually end up throwing away the last half/third of the box because it goes stale before i finish it.

My usual morning is

instant oatmeal + chia seeds + mixed nuts and coffee

refrigerator oatmeal (oats + almond milk + +greek yogurt + chia seeds + *.berries + maple syrup/honey) and coffee

egg muffins (eggs + arugula/spinach + caramelized onion + sausage/bacon/ham) and coffee

I eat more adult cereals now if I have them, but I'm not mad at the occasional bowl of Lucky Charmz or Applejacks or one of the flavored Cheerios if it's around.

My wife, brother, and dad are huge into cereal. And they love themselves some frosted flakes, cinnamon toast crunch, and honey bunches of oats. They are not fatties either, as my dad/brother do marathons and triathlons.

I stick to cheerios, rice krispies, or kix. Once every few months I will get a box of cocoa crispies. Now I eat cereal maybe once on the weekend but I used to keep it at work to eat every day.

How do you guys feel about generic brand cereal? I don't mind Crispy Rice, Honey Oat Clusters, or Toasted Oats but my wife won't touch the generic brands.

If I eat cereal its with almond milk. I only put milk in coffee when it's my only option.

Also is dntownral Asian?

I had a bowl of honey bunches of oats last weekend as our friends we were with had some. Before that probably college. I typically do homemade granola + greek yogurt or like an egg scramble.

i'm not asian, i ate all the regular cereal growing up. cinnamon toast and raisin bran were my favorites.

i'm not sure when/why i stopped eating cereal, but if I had to guess i think it was probably from the shitty dorm fridges not being able to keep milk fresh more than a couple days.

and while most cereal isn't good for you (and neither is milk), that's not why i don't eat it as an adult. I don't eat it now because it is so much quicker and easier to grab some fruit or a piece of bread or something and not have to sit down and eat and then have a dish to clean. basically i'm too lazy for that shit.

i'm just surprised that i'm in the minority, if anything i would have thought that most adults don't eat cereal

I eat cereal almost every day for breakfast. Always have (with the exception of when I lived in the dorms and went to the dining hall to pig out on eggs). I can probably count on my hands the number of times in a year when I have something else.

First thing I do when I wake up is go down stairs and fix a bowl of cereal and browse the internet while eating.

The majority of the time it is a more "adult" type cereal but I do have kids and will eat some of theirs sometimes.

I rarely eat breakfast. If I do, usually oatmeal with a banana.

But I keep a box of Apple Jacks in the house, and will occasionally eat a handful dry as a snack or dessert. It's probably not the healthiest thing, but with normal bloodwork and steadily declining weight I don't really care.

I guess it depends on your morning routine, but I find cereal incredibly easy and convenient.

Get out bowl and spoon, pour cereal and milk into bowl, and eat. Eat cereal while browsing internet or watching Sportscenter...then rinse bowl and put it in the dishwasher. How is that not easy?

Obviously it's not easier than grabbing a banana or a piece of bread and heading out the door (who eats just a piece of bread?)...but I also don't like crumbs in my car or having to deal with where to put a banana peel while I'm driving (i have done it and usually just bring a paper towel to wrap it in).

My other go-to breakfast is a piece of toast topped with peanut butter and sliced banana. Not a difficult breakfast, but not easier than cereal.

Not attacking your entire "anti-cereal" agenda...just saying that if you're lazy as shit, cereal is for you.
