Being that it is almost halloween, I thought we should all share our real unexplained spooky stories we have experienced in our lives.
I don't think I believe in ghosts, but I've had a few strange things happen before.
First one, was when I was a kid (maybe 9ish), I woke up in the middle of the night, and at the end of my bed was an old man in a tuxedo, white as a sheet, ghastly glow about him. He looked a bit like this guy:
He was laughing at me, and pointing.
When I looked right at him and screamed in terror, he suddenly stopped laughing, as if he was surprised that I could see him. He then kind of disappeared, and I ran straight to my parent's room to sleep in their bed the rest of the night. It was so real.
With the passage of time the rationale side of my brain has lead me to believe that I must have been still asleep or something, but for years after that I definitely believed, I KNEW I was not asleep, and that I had definitely seen a real ghost. It was crazy.
My second story started happening a few weeks ago. I was eating dinner with my sweet wife, and all of a sudden we heard a really loud shattering noise. Like loud breaking glass. We searched all over the house, checked all the windows, everything was as it should be.
Then later that night I went to get a glass of water. I opened the cupboard with the glasses and low and behold, a freaking glass was shattered to a million little pieces in the cupboard!. There was no shelf for it to fall off of, it had just shattered standing in place!

We have no idea why it keeps happening, but its spooky. Plus its super annoying because I have to make sure my coffee cup in the morning doesn't have glass shards in it.
Anybody else like to share their real life spooky story?? 10/7/2016 9:07:24 AM

^There may be low key vibrations (possibly low frequency enough that you might not even be able to notice) working their way into that cabinet that happen to be oscillating your glasses at their natural frequencies. This could cause them to shatter with seemingly no outside force. 10/7/2016 9:27:54 AM

^That, is an interesting thought. What could cause such vibrations? 10/7/2016 9:52:14 AM

Your first incident sounds like sleep paralysis or night terror. I recommend checking out the movie The Nightmare http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3317522/ , one of the creepiest movies I've seen in the past year. 10/7/2016 10:43:17 AM

I like how ghosts respect property lines / boundaries. It's like...the register of deeds has control over paranormal activity. 10/7/2016 11:06:06 AM

Any number of things. Extremely low frequency vibrations, given enough amplitude, can travel for miles. Elephants, for example, can communicate with each other for miles across the Serengeti using sound waves that humans can't even detect without technology. Do you have a crawl space under your house with a dehumidifier? Or maybe just an old AC unit that vibrates a lot? Hell it could even be something in a neighbors house. If it keeps happening, try just moving the glasses to a different cabinet and putting something else in this one. It is uncommon, but definitely not outside the realm of possibility. 10/11/2016 3:04:52 PM

I'm not typically one to believe in ghosts and feel like I can come up with a rational explanation for most things.
But a few years ago (2010 maybe?) I was back at my parents house in Oak Ridge, NC. If anyone knows this area, they know it's basically all farm land out in the country.
It was Thanksgiving, and after a massive lunch I took a short nap on the couch like most good Americans and then suited up and went for a nice run just before dark. I got about 2 miles from my parents house and by now it was pretty dark with only light from a single streetlight on the road. I was out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farms. I look over to my right and see that I'm running past a doublewide...and as I'm running past I see my shadow on it. And then look a little further back and there's the shadow of a kid riding their bike, following me. I SWEAR ON MY LIFE I saw the distinct shadow, as well as heard the kid on the bike. The very clear sound of a pedaling chain and sprocket, and the kid laughing. I turned around so I could see the actual kid behind me and get out of his way to let him ride past me but there was nothing there. I was completely alone. Freaked me the hell out and I basically sprinted the 2 mile return home ![](images/beatup.gif) 10/12/2016 12:02:45 PM

We moved into this old house in Georgia when I was a kid (probably about 14 years old or so), and out back there was this shed. There wasn't much in that shed but some old garden tools, a wooden work bench, some boards, and some spiderwebs. Anyway, one evening I was just poking around when I was bored one day, pushed the door open, and I went into the shed...my dog followed me in. Soon after I we walked in, the door SLAMMED shut behind me. It got markedly colder in there, and it was pitch black. I found the door knob and was pulling as hard as I fucking could... The door would not even begin to budge. Like, not even a little bit. It was like it was cemented in place. I could hear this low, rumbling noise for about 30 seconds as I was trying to get the damn door open. I was pulling so hard on the door that I eventually lost my grip and stumbled backwards. When I finally regained my balance, the door just opened slowly like nothing had ever happened, and the noise just stopped.
Sunlight came in, and I quickly stood in the doorway for fear that it might shut again. I looked back inside for my dog, and eventually spotted him cowering in the corner next to those old dusty boards, with a look of absolute fear on his face like he saw something in the darkness while the door was shut. I called his name, a couple of times, and then he suddenly sprang up and bolted out of the shed.
I never could get him to go anywhere close to that damn shed again. And anytime I ever went in there, I propped the door open with something.... 10/12/2016 7:59:15 PM

The night of my mom's funeral, we had a candle that was lit in our living room. After all of the family and friends had left, I blew out the candle.
It was burning when we woke up. My dad saw me blow out the candle.
And occasionally, in the house in which my family and I live, I smell cigarette smoke in the most random places. My mom was a heavy smoker and died of lung cancer. 10/12/2018 11:17:38 AM

This house was never smoked in. Mom died in a house in Gaston county. Our house is in the Raleigh area. Nothing in our house was present in my parents' house, therefore nothing should smell like smoke. 10/12/2018 12:48:40 PM
