I'm a professional mathematician (with a Ph.D.) , and I ended up with 42. I didn't note the different numbers of horseshoes.

I must say, though, that over the years I've grown accustomed to symbols whose purpose is to be clear and distinguishable, rather than confusingly similar to the other symbols.

OK, I looked again...42 is what you get with correct OOO but not noticing the single horseshoe and boot. I'm cool with that, because that is admittedly some gotcha bullshit.

It's the people, college educated in many cases, who don't know to multiply before they add. I mean, what the fuck?

I hear ya. but personally, years of grading for undergrad math classes have desensitized me to how awful so many kids are at math.

I find this business about "If the election were only open to men, Trump would win in a landslide" to be far more mind-boggling and depressing.
