Pardon my ignorance, but did we waste a bunch of money on courts and prisons to just have one guy hand out get out of jail free cards? Asking for a friend.

did you know that private prisons can fine states millions of dollars if 75% or more occupancy is not maintained?

i don't know the details of who was released and what "crimes" they committed, but I assume they were victimless crimes that probably didn't deserve jailtime in the first place, or at least not as much as they received. like minor drug offenses, which are only prison-receiving crimes largely because of our for-profit prison system.
