I have a friend that lives in Nashville. Heading up there the day before to crash at his place for the eclipse. Got some eclipse glasses from work. From what I've heard, Nashville is gonna be fucking crazy. Knowing our luck though, it will be overcast that day .

You definitely want to get as close to the center line as possible. I plan on being in the Lake Murray SC region but I am very nervous clouds could easily ruin these plans.

I am gonna wing it and try to drive down Monday morning early and hope I can get there in 6 hours. I plan to avoid 95 that should be a shit storm gonna try US1 into central SC away from all the major cities and find a parking lot or field or something. All pending the weather forecast of course.

If I didn't have anything set up, I wouldn't even try. The news in South Carolina has been talking about it non-stop for the past month. Charleston has been like triple booked for the past 6 months...suppose to be the most people in the city ever. Its goings to be a clusterfuck pretty much everywhere on that line.

A lot of people tried to turn it into a vacation/event so all the bigger areas especially on the coast would make sense to be booked long in advance. I am gonna target someplace between say Columbia and Sumter out in the sticks. Drop the kid off at school Monday morning then just start driving trying to reach target area if traffic gets all jacked up I will just start taking backroads. My only goal for that day is to get into target area by 2 pm or so then who cares about the drive back. I still assume its gonna be overcast that day though because thats how shit goes haha.

Honestly all it takes is one lousy Cumulus cloud to fuck it up with a 2 min 30 second window of totality. Anything short of a washout would be worth a try in going.

I'll be renting a lake house and pontoon boat at Lake Murray. Hopefully, the weather won't be too bad, and we'll be able to reposition the boat away from a passing cloud.
