Trubisky would be a solid draft pick...in the 3rd round. I don't think any of the top 3 QBs in this class are ready to start next season. 2/10/2017 8:30:40 AM |

I think Watson is as ready as Winston/Mariota were when they were drafted. Kizer, Trubisky, etc? No way. 2/10/2017 10:45:43 AM |

Watson needs to go to an immediate impact offense like buffalo or jets.
If he falls to Denver that would be an interesting fit. There def will be a ballsy team that goes QB early. 2/10/2017 10:58:08 AM |

Denver taking a 1st round QB two drafts in a row would be pretty funny.
Jets are reportedly not looking at drafting a QB and instead are looking at Glennon and Tyrod. 2/10/2017 4:56:11 PM |

If Dak can have success as a rookie, then I think Watson can too. Granted Watson won't be playing behind that beast Oline, but he has shown he can excel against NFL caliber players at Bama and FSU.

^I think you're not giving enough credit to the team he was on.
You'd be surprised how many Cowboys fans want the team to move Dak while his value is super high and keep Romo and draft another 2nd or 3rd round QB. They seem to believe that any average QB will look great with their offense.
I mean, put Dak on the Jets or Bills as a rookie and his season is a LOT different, way less wins and he doesn't even sniff MVP discussions. 2/13/2017 8:50:27 AM |

I think Dak is really, really good. I knew that since before we played them in the bowl game. But he was definitely helped by being drafted by a super bowl contender, just like Ezekiel Elliot was. Take away that offensive line and they aren't having record breaking rookie seasons. 2/13/2017 10:33:13 AM |

But you guys are saying none of these 3 QBs are ready to start next season. There are a few jobs where a competent player like Watson could start and be fine. Denver, Houston, maybe Buffalo come to mind immediately. Yeah those places don't have the Dallas O-line, but they have talent all over the rosters and just need a game manager to be a potential playoff team. 2/13/2017 5:39:56 PM |

I like Watson, but from what I've read it sounds like a lot of NFL scouts have labeled him as a 3rd rounder based on talent and upside.
He's going to be drafted in the first round, probably to a really bad team, so I don't have high hopes for him as a rookie. He's one of the few guys that I was super high on him last year and then this year I just wasn't impressed with him outside of maybe 2-3 games.
I'd love to see the 49ers pick up a FA QB like Glennon on a 2-3 year deal and then draft a guy like Watson and have him sit for a season. They aren't going to contend year 1 and I think Glennon will be affordable and serviceable in Shanny's offense. Then after a year, if Glennon does well you have potentially 2 good QB options(trade) or if Glennon struggles you cut ties and start Watson. 2/14/2017 9:20:09 AM |

So many rumors coming out this morning that he(Trubisky) is going to be the #1 overall pick.
I'd rank him the #1 QB in this class, but no way I take him #1 overall. He should be picked somewhere between 12-20, but being a QB definitely inflates his draft stock. 4/27/2017 8:21:35 AM |

Well the browns are stupid.
There are many draft analysts who say that none of the qbs this year have first round grades. That won't ever stop a desperate team from taking one in the first round though. 4/27/2017 8:36:19 AM |

The fact Cleveland is even debating taking Trubitchsky tells you all you need to know about his potential as a QB. Other than the annoyance of hearing cheater fans brag about how they had a number one pick I hope they draft him because that's who Cleveland deserves if they are that stupid haha. 4/27/2017 9:06:45 AM |

Here's my thing with Trubisky. If he's good enough to be the #1 pick, he should have been good enough to start over Marquise Williams. And he wasn't. Trubisky obviously has the tools to be a good QB, but that's a huge red flag and I sure as shit wouldn't take him 1st overall. 4/27/2017 9:23:22 AM |

I think Cleveland is blowing a lot of ass-smoke with the trubisky at #1 talk. Maybe wanting some other team to trade up to get him.

Apparently the Browns have gone "all-in" on analytics, and apparently the analytics are really positive for Trubisky.
Not sure how you can really shit on Trubisky for not starting over Williams. Trubisky was a true FR and Williams was the returning starter. Still, Trubisky did enough to warrant getting a few series each game even behind a guy who put up 3k+ yards in the air on top of a ton of rushing yards. Then Trubisky is a true SO behind a returning 2 year starter coming off a 3k+ yard season, of course Williams was going to start his senior year, and that team did great, but once again, Trubisky still got plenty of series. It wasn't a true 2-QB system, but it sort of was as Trubisky saw plenty of action before taking the reins as a Junior.
I actually think Fedora played that brilliantly, you get 2 years of upperclassmen Williams followed by 2 years of upperclassmen Trubisky, that offense would have been elite for 4 straight years as you accumulate more and more talent to replace them, it's a great move. I just can't imagine Fedora thought that Trubisky would end up being the #1 QB in the draft, so kinda kills that and I think that offense will sputter this year because of it.
Why would Cleveland need to blow smoke? I could see ESPN blowing smoke trying to ramp up interest, since knowing the 1st pick is boring, but Cleveland isn't going to get a mind-blowing offer to move up to 1st for Trubisky or Garrett. I still think the first pick is going to be Garrett, but I wouldn't be surprised if the analytics were much better for a guy like Trubisky. 4/27/2017 10:51:12 AM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148439 Posts user info edit post |
Trubisky wasn't even that good his one year as a starter. He put up most of his gawdy stats in their ooc schedule. And marquise isn't even in the NFL, but the potentiao #1 pick couldn't beat him out for the job? Analytics credibility watch if any advanced stats have him being worthy of the #1 pick
And why would Cleveland need to blow smoke? Do you think all the teams are being honest when they pump up or downgrade players? As if there isn't a ton of posturing by all teams?

Yeah I'm not even saying Trubisky can't be successful in the NFL so much as even with teams reaching for QBs in a weak offensive class, I don't see the justification for taking him 1st overall or over Watson unless you are just looking at how his physical measurements line up.
Yes he had a nice completion percentage but Watson threw too many picks, but the level of competition wasn't the same. If you actually watched any of Trubisky's incompletions and INTs they could be brutal. Plus a lot of checking down to Switzer and Howard and letting them make stuff happen mean a lot of easy completions and YAC to pad the stats a bit. 4/27/2017 11:11:18 AM |

because Williams wasn't a very good QB. Also trubisky's freshman year williams wasn't the "returning starter" he was the guy who had started after Bryn Renner got hurt. he wasn't entrenched as the starter, he beat Trubisky out for the job. Williams was a career 60% passer. If trubisky was the better QB, you play him. Obviously he wasn't.4/27/2017 11:28:13 AM |

LOL at the idea MW was a bad QB. Dude was twice 2nd team all-acc. He's a bad pro prospect but he was a beast in Fedora's spread offense.

Williams was a 3rd year player who had started games, he was the starter heading into camp over a true Freshman.
I don't understand why people are clamoring for Watson over Trubisky. I think Trubisky is more of an unknown with upside, I think we all know what Watson is. Watson was surrounded by incredible talent and he still didn't look great at times, factor in some injury history and his overall lack of arm strength, a team like Cleveland can't pick Watson.
Trubisky has more upside than Watson. I think the "he's a winner" shit is overrated. Time Tebow and Vince Young were winners too, Watson has intangibles but he's not a great passer and his mobility will be limited at the NFL level. 4/27/2017 1:57:32 PM |

How is Trubisky a much better passer than Watson? Nearly identical completion percentages and passer ratings in college. Sure, Watson threw more picks, but he also threw more yards and TDs and played in more games. Trubisky has the "prototypical NFL size" but I don't see what else he has. And if he had managed to win the starting job for more than one season, I would have been interested to see how opposing teams would gameplan for him having a full season of film to pick apart. 4/27/2017 2:06:11 PM |

I'm amazed at how many people don't understand 'arm strength.' It's not about how far you can throw it, it's about how quick you can get it there. Watson throws a slow ball

People raved about his arm strength for a long time. Then he was clocked and people said he had a weak arm. Obviously it's important, but I think it seems like maybe the velocity stuff is being weighted too heavily. But what do I know.4/27/2017 9:07:49 PM |

They'll have less money tied up in Glennon + Trubisky than many teams have in just a starter. Trubisky's contract is pretty much predetermined. And Glennon's deal is basically a glorified one year contract. But still, the Bears are dumb.4/28/2017 2:26:58 AM |
