Quote :
"My Bloomberg colleague Peter Coy reported last week on a study exploring the idea that racial wealth inequality stems from life choices and personal achievement -- that is, that blacks would be as rich as whites if only they got good educations, formed stronger families, worked hard and saved money. Using data from the Federal Reserve’s Survey of Consumer Finances, the researchers found that, as of 2013, none of that seemed to matter: Whether they were college-educated, married with kids, employed full-time or prudent savers, black families’ net worth was invariably many times lower than that of white families with the same characteristics."

Quote :
"In many areas -- college education, two-parent families, employment -- black families made progress toward closing the gap with whites from 1989 to 2013 (the earliest and latest data available). But the wealth gap ended up larger than ever. 1 Here’s how that looks"

https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-02-13/what-s-keeping-black-americans-poor

So white people use more drugs, but get arrested for drugs less. (we knew that)
White people spend more money, but end up with more wealth

Black people had a greater increase in two-parent families but gained less wealth
Black people had a greater increase in education, but gained less income

We now have statistical evidence to reject all of the myths about why there is a race gap. We now have data that actually quantifies white privilege.

The report is even more detailed

I mean we had the cult of social justice rioting in Charlotte last year, and the guy wasn't even unarmed. So that isn't even a factor anymore.

It's a shame that a common sense cause like "preventing police brutality" was hijacked and politicized by Marxist crazies like BLM and immediately devolved into a race-baiting, media-sensationalized, riot-inducing, divisive shit show. But hey, that's the regressive left for you, they always need to divide people and tell them they are victims.

I am sorry I missed narrative as I went for the post with the greatest JCE troll buzzword density, but I see now that in said post he did not use his favorite troll buzzword narrative

I promise next time I will look at weighted JCE troll buzzword density. Under that criterion any of his posts using narrative will automatically win, as the troll buzzword narrative is weighted at least an order of magnitude more than the other ones he uses, owing to narrative being his most oft-repeated and ultimate go-to favorite troll buzzword

White people had a head start, and based on how wealth works, we can expect them to continue pulling ahead. I mean, when white folks were leaving the farms and buying their first houses (with government-subsidized home loans), black folks were being denied loans and crammed into taller and taller public housing projects.

I mean, we talk a lot about black folks and their lack of wealth, but we need to be clear that white folks got wealthy through a series of government programs and subsidies that worked very well--and they would have worked for black people, too, if they had access to them.

I think there's a legitimate case for reparations when it comes to the impact of the Federal Housing Authority and whatnot on black communities.

In looking at this for 30 seconds, it compares the wealth of households. So yes, a race with a much higher single motherhood rate will have much lower cumulative wealth than a 2 parent household.

You can put as many pseudo-Marxist SJWs as you want into a think tank, but no matter how you spin it, unequal outcome =/= unequal opportunity.

^ Page 8 of the report (or page 11 of the pdf) addresses your argument.

It tries to. The problem with that comparison is that it only looks at a snapshot of the most recent generation, then tries to tie that back to a metric like wealth that has been accumulated through multiple generations.

If your great grandmother wasn't married, and your mother wasn't married, you getting married won't magically rectify a disparity, but it is definitely a step in the right direction.

If this thread was titled "Why black Americans are poorer" I think looking at wealth would make since, but if you are going to say "stay poor" then income is more relevant, and if you look at a snapshot of family structure and income, you will see that factor is what counts, not the skin color. However as I have looked at that source further I've seen its blatant leftist/Marxist bias, given it's attempt to lump in Latinos as a new "victim" of "white privilege", while the article conveniently ignores Indians and Asians who have thrived in this system. Also lol @ it parroting the debunked gender wage gap myth...

You know... there is a fair point about the lingering wealth disparity resulting from historic racism 50+ years ago, but this source clearly has an agenda, so whatever reasonable argument it could have made is buried by "victimhood" bullshit.

^That is all addressed by the main idea of the article. The entire point of this thread was to point out that the wealth gap GOT BIGGER as there have become more 2 parent households. I guess 30 seconds isn't long enough to get the main idea.

The main idea of the article is to take any disparity of outcome and try and misrepresent it as a disparity of opportunity imposed on victimized minorities by the evil white male patriarchy. For fucks sake man, it even tries to bring up the debunked gender wage gap myth...

There haven't become more 2 parent households. This is a trend that has only been getting worse. Like I said, no matter how many marxist SJWs you put in a think tank, you can't dodge the fact that the number of parents in a family is the best predictive indicator of success for a child. So if race X has the most single mothers, if race X has the lowest high school graduation rate, and race X has the highest rate of crime, it is kind of a stretch to suggest that any disparity of success is because society hates race X.

Sure you could make a reasonable case that it isn't fair that one race's great grandparents had more opportunities than anothers, but when you start acting as if Latinos are now "oppressed" and that the gender wage gap is some sort of sexist evil, you forfeit any claim to being reasonable.

Everything you just posted is myth. You clearly haven't read either of the articles and until you start to read and acknowledge the facts, you will continue to have a twisted view.

The bloomberg article has a graph that shows how the ratio of two-parent black families to two parent white families went from .6 to .8 between 1989 and 2013. In the same period, the ratio of black family wealth to white family wealth went down from .2 to .1

Also, black education and employment went up in the same time period.

Wealth is important because poverty is self-perpetuating.
