I have referred this matter to some trusted advisers whom I like better than y'all's asses. Though the delivery of the line is clear in my opinion, controlled review has yielded enough difference in the perception of the line in question that I am willing to accept that it's more ambiguous than I had judged.

In addition, "some middleman" does in fact make more narrative sense than "two middlemen" despite the superior meter of the latter. That much I will admit.
