Figure might as well start up a thread since they announced the new doctor.
Honestly, I haven't watched much since Series 8, just got tired of Moffat's writing, so lets hope the writing is a bit better. 7/16/2017 12:23:30 PM |

my wife and I were just talking about this ... I guess we're gonna go back and rewatch/watch the Capaldi stuff, I think we're 2 seasons behind. 7/16/2017 12:44:52 PM |

I wasn't a huge Capaldi fan but this last season was pretty strong.

I especially liked how this season ended. I'm excited for the Christmas special and the new Doctor. The actress did a great job on Broadchurch. 7/16/2017 6:14:49 PM |

I mean if they were going to bring someone in from Broadchurch they really should have given that guy David Tennant a go. I think he could be special as the Doctor. 7/17/2017 9:03:21 AM |

Not thrilled with this first episode. A new Doctor is always an adjustment, but everything was different, more so than usual. I hope they don't continue the "throbbing bass" motif. Overall, it felt more like Torchwood than Dr Who.
BBC is making a huge deal out of the "OMFG A FEMALE DOCTOR" angle, and I was glad that the episode, itself, didn't make a big deal of it. It's definitely a new angle to explore, and I hope they don't take cheap shots at it or exploit it in a cheap way. If this is something that can happen, then it wouldn't be a surprise or a big deal to a Time Lord, and the series should reflect that fact. I like how Jodi responded to it: oh, cool, good to know. The new series, while consistently white ethnocentric, has always taken the "diversity" angle in stride, without getting preachy. If they go the preachy route, it will absolutely kill the show. At the very least, it's nice to see women in this show go beyond the scream queen role. I hope they keep that up.
Oh, and I hate the new "screwdriver." At least it ain't fucking sunglasses.

Oi. Not getting much better. Dr Who has had preachy moments, but this one was, by far, the worst. Other sites are saying it will get worse than this episode. If that's the case, I'm done for the season. Also, couldn't get over the transition to Quantum Leap this episode took. Then we're gonna send out a black guy in 1955 Alabama to convince white people to get on a bus, after he was previously threatened with a lynching. Like, seriously? Oh, crazy racist from the future who wants to fuck with the past? Let's send him even further to the past!
Sloppy story writing. Painful levels of preaching. Damned near exploiting the ethnicities of the cast members. Characters getting ridiculously star-struck like never before. This new production team sucks.
The ONLY saving grace so far is the performance of Jodi at this point.

Didn't love the Rosa episode, but I assumed it was just setting up an over-arching villain(as the guy they got to play the villain has been in some other shows like Revenge).
Though the next episode appears to be about big spiders, guessing as a Halloween episode of sorts. 10/23/2018 9:23:20 AM |
