I doubt anyone will have anything directly to offer here, but are there any particularly good places online or IRL you guys might know I could purchase a relatively cheap older car? I might try my hand as a rural mail carrier, but it would require either a vehicle with right-hand steering/setup or something with a bench seat so you can drive easily with your left foot when necessary
Craigslist isn't coming up with much in eastern NC.. any ideas at all would be helpful, such as particular types/models/makes of cars/trucks/whatever
I'm in eastern NC about 1.5 hours from Raleigh, but can travel within a fairly sizable radius for purchases and considerations and all that

this one's near Greenville, SC/Charlotte area but it looks good

if that's still available, should I try to maybe put in a slightly lower offer on that?
it's old and doesn't look like it has a AC LOL, but having the wheel and pedals already on the right is nice 10/1/2017 6:05:37 AM |

I also was alerted to the option of converting your vehicle to a right-hand steering one, such as offered by these people
https://www.postalthings.com/right-hand-drive-kits
would that be more economical since I already have a car with good mileage? would it be possible to have a conversion done cheaper than this or differently? (they are offering a do-it-yourself kit to be shipped for 1950 plus shipping) 10/1/2017 6:36:30 AM |

^I don't have an imminent need for it, but I'm hoping that'll stay available for another week or two
might be pressing my luck there tho
if the odometer is just over 30000 that seems really good 10/2/2017 4:54:35 AM |

For a bench seat you'll be looking at full-size vehicles. Hard to go wrong with a Crown Vic/Grand Marquis--bulletproof engine, rugged, relatively simple, plenty of space. Gas mileage isn't great and the one weak point can be the transmission, but all in all it'd be a great choice. If you're willing to go all the way back to '96 that puts Caprice/Roadmaster back in play as well as similar full-size RWD choices.
Other common cars with the option of bench seats would be Chevy Impala and pre-2007 Ford Taurus, though neither of those is guaranteed to have them. 10/5/2017 12:42:09 AM |
