I figured the other thread was better for just season tracking.

So is what Puffy (P-diddy, P-daddy, whatever) talking about just a publicity stunt? I couldn't imagine him buying a team and then intentionally sinking it by hiring on Kapernick.

I saw rumors that Bruton Smith of Charlotte Motor Speedway was interested.

If not those two, is it a possibility that we could lose the Panthers to another city? Where would they go? There aren't many major markets left.

And lastly, is Richardson selling solely due to his misdeeds?

The Panthers are pitching it as that Richardson had no plan in place if he passed away to transition the ownership of the Panthers. That it would just split amongst the descendents and lately they had been discussing that.

Then with all this other background accusation...the timing was appropriate.

Now they can leave his statue outside.

____

That aside, if I was Jordan I would go all in on owning the Panthers.

He's one of the few black americans that has the presence in that industry and location.

They're going to value the Panthers near 3 billion. Lotsa people forget the Panthers own the stadium themselves. Moving Cities would mean new stadium. That aint happening.

Puffy doesn't have the money to buy the 48% share alone.

Rumors, sources, ...

No.

Yes.

^exactly. Not even him, Curry and Kaep could come close combined.

Jordan has the Hornets AND the jumpman brand. And with Odell, shoe endorsements are stepping over into the Fball world.

I could see him and possible another partner sharing ownership.

Otherwise, there's no telling. Someone in the good ol' boys club.

[Edited on December 19, 2017 at 12:50 PM. Reason : Theres not many in NASCAR combined that would have the money]

I am not sure but don't the owners have to approve any new majority owner? This is why Rush Limbaugh wasn't allowed to own the Rams about 10 years ago. I would think the owners would reject a Sean Combs ownership group.

If we are talking local rich folks that already minority owners: The Harris', the Levine's, and The Belk's are options. As well as Bruton Smith. Not sure who from outside region would be a candidate.

There really aren't any teams that would build a stadium that would fit the NFL's market, save maybe St Louis. Oakland and San Diego already rejected new Stadium bids which is why the Chargers and Raiders left.

Yeah, Sean puffy puff p diddy daddy Combs doesn't have near enough wealth to buy majority ownership of a football team.

Pretty sure Bruton Smith could make a serious offer. Very few athletes have the wealth to buy a team.

^^Because after the next game, with all the game-time comments, this subject would be left high and dry.

puffy ain't buying 'em, the panthers ain't moving, and signing kaep wouldn't sink the franchise.

as a non-panthers fan living in the area...I hope he buys them and signs kaep. Let the hilarity ensue. I could live with the panthers not being competitive for a while

^^even in the scenario where kaepernick is signed, he wouldn't take the starting job. no reason to think that signing would leave to the franchise suddenly becoming not competitive.

^^ While their current QB isn't the best in the league, he's pretty decent. If Puffy were to implement his plan as stated, and hire Kaep on, would he just hire him and bench him? No, benching him would just be another slap in the face. He'd have to play. And if the coach didn't want to put him in, well, would he find a coach that would?

What would that mean for Cam?

I don't care about the kneeling crap - they can do whatever they want. But I doubt Kaep is as good as Cam, so if they want to put Kaep in the driver's seat and sink the team, let 'em have at it.

If Richardson is stepping out the door because of sexual harassment, I'm sure the NFL would love Diddy's criminal history

I was thinking through the wealthiest African Americans who could buy the team and I didn't even think of Jordan.

I would be ok with Jordan and Steph Curry going in on the team. Sports icons who love Charlotte and will be awesome marketers.

Steph Curry is not nearly rich enough to buy a football team. I guess he could be like Nelly when he bought a tiny share of the bobcats.

I personally think Puffy's offer was an elaborate troll of Richardson fans (you know the type). These people think that Puffy owning a % of the team means he'll roll onto the field in Master P's tank before every home game, "Sweet Caroline" will be replaced by "All about the Benjamins," and everyone in the stadium will be required to take a knee.

So pdiddy has a net worth of 820M and doesn't have nearly the money to think about buying them, but Bruton Smith (1B) and Jordan (1.39B) could just swoop in and buy them? I mean I get that those numbers are bigger, but..

Interesting that some are projecting the Panthers to be worth close to 2.5 billion and some are saying it will be less than 2 billion when it's all said and done.

I have seen reports that Eddie DeBartolo, former owner of the 49ers, is considering trying to make a run and putting together a group.

^^everything I've seen/heard says that Richardson's portion of the Panthers is worth >$2 billion, so the Panthers franchise would be worth $4-5 billion.

Also I didn't realize Sean Piddy Combs was worth $890 million. That's still significantly less than 1 billion. And no active athletes are worth anywhere near that amount.

I still think Bruton Smith + his family could put together a serious bid. I think in all likelihood one of these super rich minority owners (the Levines or the Belks) buy enough of Richardson's shares to assume control.

Are there any outside regulations that have to chime in on the sale of something like an NFL team? I'm very ignorant to this process, because obviously, I don't follow football at an extremely close level. I'm mostly concerned about Charlotte and local economies surrounding Charlotte, with regards to this sale.

I just can't believe and NFL team is worth that much money. I'm floored.

i don't know much about the regulations or anything. but just for reference....the LA Clippers (different sport, much larger city...but still) sold for $2B in 2014. the Buffalo Bills sold for $1.4B in 2014.

If Diddy is really serious about buying the team (I don't think he is), he needs to drop the Kaepernick association. I got nothing against the guy personally, but he's delusional if he thinks a group of owners that won't let the guy on a roster will let him own part of a team.

If you want some insight into the sale process listen to this interview. it's from WFNZ with Amy Trask (former CEO of the Oakland Raiders). Very insightful. It starts at the 26:00 minute mark.

basically no sale can go through without 3/4 of the league owners' approval.
