I smashed my side mirror on one of those fucking cones on Evan road and when it broke off, it came off all jagged. I bought a new mirror but can't put it on cause there's a chunk of the old mirror still on there that I need someone to cut off. It's hard plastic so you'd need whatever blade it takes to cut hard plastic. Other types of saws will be considered.
$20 OBO. Serious inquiries only.

sounds like you need some precision work. a reciprocating saw is not a precision tool. imagine michael j fox with a really sharp serrated knife

you shouldn't need to do any cutting to replace a side mirror 3/30/2018 10:26:48 AM |

Yes in ordinary circumstances you shouldn't, but there's three pegs that need to fit into the car to attach the mirror and one of the spots has a hunk of plastic in it so I can't insert the new mirror. 3/30/2018 10:29:30 AM |

The circled peg should not be there. The other end of it is too big to force it out of the hole.

definitely not something you want to go at with a sawzall. i'd just cut it with some wire cutting pliers or something. could probably even grab it with some pliers and break it off. 3/30/2018 3:50:17 PM |

Can you just tap it with a hammer and knock it into the interior of the frame to get it out of the way?3/31/2018 1:29:44 AM |

^No I tried that. Not very easily at least. It doesn't help that I live in an apartment complex so there's no time to do anything without people walking by and gawking. 3/31/2018 11:14:31 AM |

this does not require power tools of any type. you could cut it with a steak knife if you were determined enough. 3/31/2018 7:08:37 PM |

I've got a small chisel and a hammer you can use.. Or an oscillating saw with a small blade, or a sawzall, or.. Drill bits? No dremel though 4/2/2018 3:56:36 PM |

Although I agree, you could probably do it with something around the house (close to) as easily 4/2/2018 10:32:30 PM |

For power tools, my first option would be a drill to drill out the piece until it can easily be broken off / forced out. Second would be a dremel.
or as ^^ said, a set of cutters / pliers may work.
if you bring it to my office, I can attempt to remove it. no liability for damage, of course.

Where are you at?
There is going to be a screw on the other side most likely. You should be able to pull the interior panel off and then take the screw out and it will just fall off.
Have you had the inside trim off to look? Do you have the replacement mirror to compare the design? 4/3/2018 9:17:39 AM |

^^Yeah I took the screw out already. That's how I determined the piece was stuck. If pliers will get it off, I don't think I'm strong enough to do it myself.

Its stuck then because the sheet metal is bent around that screw hole from where the mirror broke off.
You will probably need to hammer that sheet metal back into place for the new mirror to go back on properly 4/4/2018 7:56:49 AM |
