Having hands with no arms looks weird and distracting. Is that how most VR is? Also the guy at the very end looked like the dad from Modern family 11/21/2019 5:55:16 PM |

Amazing game so far.
Probably the best VR game ever made. 3/23/2020 6:06:14 PM |

Agreed. Only played about 1.5 hours last night because my Rift S was acting up but oh man. Up until now, Lone Echo was the most immersive video game I've ever played (also in VR) but now it is HL Alyx.
Headcrabs and headcrab zombies are absolutely terrifying now. In HL and HL2 they were a mild annoyance but fuck. Haven't encountered any of the bigger ones that make that whipping sound from HL2 yet but I know it is gonna be even more terrifying. 3/24/2020 10:43:38 AM |

How would playing this in a 4 x 4 area be? 3/24/2020 11:50:25 AM |

The only issue I could see with playing it in a 4x4 would be extending your arms a lot to shoot/pick things up/interact. If you can stay relatively centered in that 4x4 you should be okay.
The default setting for locomotion is blink/teleport which has worked well with me (I got crazy motion sickness on less graphically intensive VR games), so if you don't walk around too much in game and use that instead, you should be fine. One thing to note though, there are headcrabs jumping at you and people throwing things and stuff so you do have to take cover. It is obviously a lot more intuitive to move your whole body/crouch then it is the thumb stick so keep that in mind. 3/24/2020 1:03:45 PM |

Continuously impressed with how interactive the environment is. You can trap headcrabs under boxes and balance things like traffic cones on your head. If you are wearing a traffic cone or other hat and walk under a barnacle, it will grab the hat instead. Same thing happens with respirators and headcrabs that try to latch on to your face.
You only have two inventory slots but there are random wooden and cardboard boxes lying around, so if you want to hoard grenades and health packs, you can carry around a box filled with them. If you are on a lower end system that may cause crashes after a while though.
One thing I'm disappointed in is a lack of melee weapons. I was hoping that I'd be able to smash people on the head with bricks or pipes and stuff that I find lying around, but no luck there. It would be especially effective against headcrabs. I read that Valve originally did have makeshift melee weapons like that but during playtesting, so many people were punching walls and stuff that they decided to take it out. I'm hoping the mod scene doesn't take too long to put them back in. 3/26/2020 3:49:27 PM |
