Guess he didn't like moving from Denver to Charlotte...which in turn means he might be done with NASCAR.

Will NASCAR be around in 10 years? On TV or just streaming?

It's boggling to think how fast an entire professional league can die off.

And 42 until the Rolex 24. Kyle Busch is racing in it this year. Hopefully he doesn't win. It will be a good test to see how good of a racer he really is.

Wednesday night races would already be a thing if they could figure out the right market where enough fans would attend on a Wednesday night to make it worth the track's while.

I've always thought Indycar should race at Charlotte on a Wednesday.

-it's a NASCAR city, no NASCAR on that night
-all the NASCAR team personnel aren't working
-close enough to a big metro area that already loves racing

Other track I can think of that'd be somewhat obvious is Richmond.

If NASCAR ever goes to the Nashville Fairgrounds, I can see that being Wednesday.

I know. Imagine the pay cuts NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL players will be getting in a decade when massive huge TV rights deals disappear? There's going to be some serious lockouts going on.

hailie deegan moved to ford, gonna run ARCA and some IMSA races.

the 2021 car is using a lot of v8 supercar parts: 6 speed sequential gearbox, rear independent suspension, coil overs front and rear

Tanner Gray to compete full time in the truck series this year. In his second year in the NHRA Pro Stock division he won the title at age 19. Then he quit drag racing to get into stock car racing. He won some races last year. Now in his second year he is working his way into the upper divisions of NASCAR.

^That's good to hear. And it's only 27 days till the Rolex 24. I haven't heard any other major NASCAR news involving the Rolex 24 other than Kyle Busch racing a Lexus. I have no clue if some of the other NASCAR guys from last year will be back too.

For the 4th year in a row:

"This is Tomac's year!"

I don't know why, but while I expect him to be strong barring injuries (which applies to anyone in the top level really) not thinking Cooper Webb repeat.

Anderson is coming back after an injury knocked him out of SX almost all of last season. Tomac is Tomac. Musquin is out with an injury.

Justin Brayton is hopping over to factory Honda to be the #2 behind Roczen.

All signs are this is the last year of Joe Gibbs Racing Suzuki, as Suzuki continue to nail down 6th of the 6 motorcycle brands. They signed Savatgy after his lone year as Tomac's #2 at Kawasaki, and then Savatgy got injured in the offseason. They have Weston Peick coming back at least after an injury knocked him out of all 2019.

Roar Before the 24 is this weekend. Kyle Busch and AJ Allmendinger are both going to be there competing in GTD. The fastest cars get to pick their pits first for the Rolex 24. Austin Cindric, Chase Briscoe, and Hailie Deegan are going to be there doing testing with GT4 Ford Mustangs. They'll be competing in the 4 hour race the day before the Rolex. I guess this means that car racing season has officially arrived? There is also a prototype 3 race this weekend. IMSA is always a nice appetizer before the Daytona 500.

Lexus got the garage/pit pole for GTD. One of Kyle Busch's co-drivers turned the fast lap on Friday. Lexus finished 2nd in class last year. Things are setting up for Busch to start the season with a class victory at the Rolex.

Those new pit stop rules are sweet - can’t wait for the 20 minute explanation and graphics it will take to explain for those races.

Maybe they should try a rule where the driver gets out his car and pulls a spare tire from the trunk and gets to pick one tire to change at any point during the break between stages two and three as long as the field is frozen under caution with less than 24 cars on the lead lap while being in the designated tire charging window.

^^ i didnt even read the rules but listened to jeff gluck podcast, its pretty simple according to him: can't pass on pit road but you can only take 2 tires so if you need 4 have to stop twice. so restart order of lead lap cars will be 0 then 2 then 4 tire cars

nice:

Quote :
"Among the changes for those specific tracks:

A significantly smaller rear spoiler, which shrinks from an 8-inch height to 2.75 inches.
The front splitter’s overhang will now measure a quarter-inch (down from 2 inches), with approximately 2-inch wings (reduced from 10.5 inches).
Alterations to the radiator pan, removing its vertical fencing in an effort to reduce front-end downforce. The dimensions of the pan remain the same.
The changes are similar to what was used in 2017-18. The package will be used for 14 races — 11 on short tracks and the three road course events."

Watched Chili Bowl Sunday with my dad. Larson has himself a nasty bloodshot left eye from a crash in a New Zealand race, although he's won a lot since then. Passed Bell mid-race after a restart to stop Bell's attempt at 4 in a row.

So for the Chili Bowl there is no minimum weight requirement for entries. So there's a ton of cheater parts on these cars that are allowed. But then you have Rico Abreu racing and think that has to be a good advantage for him. I know it didn't really work for him in stock cars but considering how much racing is driven by sponsorship, Abreu would be such a natural to me for marketing to kids.

Record-low entry of 38 cars for the Rolex this year. The year after I worked for a team there and GrandAm had dropped the open prototypes to bring in the Daytona Prototypes (2003), I think there was only 44 cars or so. Lowest I can remember.

^^I'm bummed that no Privateer bought the Ford GT cars from Multimatic. The problem is it costs a lot to run a racing team and there isn't sponsorship involved in sports car to the degree of NASCAR, Indy Car, and the NHRA.

We're getting closer to the green flag today. The GT4 Mustangs with NASCAR drivers didn't do so hot in the 4 hour race yesterday. They finished 29th and 30th out of 33 cars in class. I won't cry if the same happens with Kyle Busch over the next 24 hours.

Kyle Busch's next stint is at about Midnight. I have no clue when AJ Allmendinger is going back in. Townsend Bell and AJ Allmendinger are going back and forth from driving to helping NBC with the broadcast coverage. Ben Keating is racing for two different teams. One is in LMP2 and the other in GTD. He could win the race twice on the same day. He could also wreck the car he is driving and put himself out of the race while not even driving the car.

Well that was fun and a little dramatic in the closing hours of the Rolex 24 yesterday. The big news coming out of the weekend was the WEC and IMSA have worked together to come up with a solution that allows the top division cars to compete in both series. They asked Kyle Busch if he would like to race in the Rolex 24 again. He said he would like to do that once the new regulations take effect in 2022. Toyota competes in the WEC, but not IMSA. I think Ford is interested in being able to compete in both series with one car. Depending on what manufacturers sign on with NASCAR, the WEC, and IMSA in the future, we could maybe see a lot of the big names in NASCAR getting opportunities at the Rolex 24.

Final results:

Wayne Taylor Racing won DPi again with Cadillac. Juan Pablo Montoya finished 4th

Dragon Speed won LMP2

RLL BMW won GTLM for a second year in a row with the other car

Paul Miller Racing (GTD) finally won a Rolex 24. It's the 3rd year in a row that a Lamborghini has won after never winning a major endurance race. AJ Allmendinger finished 8th and Kyle Busch 9th.
