Hey Chit Chat, looking to try something new on the alcohol front this break. Something relatively simple I can make at home with a few ingredients.

Not looking anything super sweet that gives you a headache. (apple crown royal comes to mind)
Also not looking anything with a kick. (whiskey drinks or vodka drink where you still taste the vodka)

Looking some smooth and sippy... go!

Palomas are great for when the weather is warmer

2 oz. decent Tequila (I use 1800 rapisado but the type doesn't matter much)
A squeeze of lime juice
Q Grapefruit Soda to taste (I use ~ 1/2 a can but you might want to use more if you don't want it too boozy)

The key is the Q grapefruit soda. It actually tastes like real grapefruit, it's very carbonated, and it's not very sweet. Other grapefruit sodas are not anywhere close to being as good.

i mean there are tons of whiskey drinks that don't have a 'kick' - depending on how you are defining that.

If you don't want sweet but you don't want spirit forward it really narrows things down. Especially assuming you dnot have a lot of ingredients at home.

Any liquors that you do like? Or any drinks that you know you like? We can start with that. Otherwise it's kind of like shooting in the dark.

paper planes and aviations are great, but i cant imagine the OP wanting to keep around crème de violette, luxardo, or a $50 bottle of nonino for this.

I was thinking some starter/easy, crowd-pleaser cocktails at home with limited ingredients:

Grapefruit Sidecar: 1.5 oz brandy, 1.5 oz grapefruit juice, 1oz cointreau (shake. serve neat - coupe is the intended glass)

Painkiller: 2oz Pusser’s Rum, 4oz Pineapple Juice, 1oz Orange Juice, 1oz Coconut (Shake). Serve over crushed ice - Nutmeg & Pineapple garnish

Negroni: 1oz dry gin, 1oz sweet vermouth, 1 oz campari


Learn to make a decent margarita at home. Easy, cheap.
