While not quite 20 wins since 7/10 still not bad, helped by the fact the Mets never ran away with it and the Phillies despite all money spent still can't win consistently. The Braves who started a Minor League outfield for most of July finds themselves in 1st Place.

If you look at the pythagorean it made sense to go for it, but that was with acuña and ynoa and Ozuna for some of that.. Would have been completely fine if we sold Morton and some bullpen pieces or whatever, but I'm pretty happy with what we got. Legit pop 1-7 or 8 depending on who's out there. Still don't expect much past a playoff spot, but that's ok

Anthopolous deserves a lot of praise for the deals he was able to work at deadline.

Liberty Media pretty much set a hard budget while not the smallest its also not anywhere near what the Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, and Phillies have to spend.

With Acuña's season ending injury, Ynoa who was pitching and hitting great breaking his hand, Darnaud missing a large chunk of season, Soroka re-tearing his Achilles, and Ozuna beating his wife. This season could have turned south real quick. Pleasantly surprised, don't know if they can finish the deal and really don't expect them to make much noise in playoffs but playing meaningful games in August and September will be nice.

Meh, Bonds intentionally took shit that was undetectable at the time. Multiple people testified that Clemens juiced all the time (and he was generally a douchebag anyway). Ortiz "tested positive" once, underva test with major false positive issues, under secretive protocols, and where there were more "positive results" than samples collected, and then never tested positive again. It ain't even comparable. Fuck Bonds and Clemens.

If I'm gonna feel bad for anyone not making the HOF, it's Rafael Palmeiro, for getting fucked by Miguel Tejada.

Oh you mean 2003, the year after Ortiz got cut by the twins because of injuries? No way he would start juicing to stay in the lineup for the rest of his career!!! He wouldn't do that, he's Big Papí! He laughs and smiles! It's not like his OPS/OPS+ shot way up as soon as he joined the red sox/got caught cheating after being an average player the first 6 years of his career. Oh wait, that's exactly what happened. He's behind Johnny Damon, Orel Hersheiser and Robin Ventura in career WAR, so i guess all those guys should be in the Hall of Fame too. He is slightly ahead of Ian Kinsler though, so he's got that going for him!

As for them being assholes, I couldn't care less. Bonds has a bad public persona, but it seems to stem from a silly superstition (something that baseball players are prone to). But they aren’t confirmed. So voters choosing to punish certain guys over other guys is completely arbitrary. I don’t think you’ll find anybody legitimately arguing that Bonds wasn’t on PEDs. But if voters get to pick and choose which players they want to punish for alleged roid use, then this is all pointless.

I’m of the opinion that steroid users should be in the HOF. If a voter thinks that no roid users should be in, I guess that’s a valid opinion…but it is impossible to know who was and wasn’t on steroids. If you wanna punish Bonds and Clemens, that’s fine. But that punishment doesn’t really seem to be applied equally by voters hiding behind anonymous ballots.

It's so weird that you hate them for "cheating" but are ok with a guy who actually tested positive and whose career trajectory very much backs that up getting into the hall of fame. That's my whole issue with the hof voters. You're putting a guy in there because he's likeable and leaving others out because they're dicks. Also, i don't think the Ortiz allegations are that flimsy. He was an average- hitter in Minnesota. They cut him loose after 6 years in the big leagues. Suddenly he shows up in Boston and is insanely better. Also at this time he tests positive with the "anonymous" sample. That's a pretty goddamn big coincidence.

I think Bonds and Clemens deserve to be in the HOF (along with Pete Rose) but really don't think Ortiz does. Of course Harold fucking Baines is in the hall of fame so it doesn't really mean much anymore.

I don't particularly care if athletes take PEDs. A bunch of them do anyways. But once you start gatekeeping because of it, you can't just let the fat happy guy in because he smiles and ignore his issues.
